Incoloy 825 Seamless Pipes Manufacturer in Thailand

ASTM B423 is titled Standard Specification for Nickel-Iron-Chromium-Molybdenum-Copper Alloy Seamless Pipe and Tube, and it covers cold-worked and hot-finished seamless pipe and tube intended for general corrosive service. ASME SB-423 is the related specification for Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code applications. The standard identifies its alloys by UNS number alone, so N08825 is the designation marked on each ASME SB-423 825 seamless pipe and printed on its certificate, while Incoloy 825 remains the commercial name on the requisition. Pipe is ordered by standard pipe size and schedule; Incoloy 825 seamless tubes for exchanger bundles are ordered by outside diameter and wall under a separate tube specification.

Each piece in a lot passes either a hydrostatic test or a nondestructive electric examination, and any length that leaks under hydrostatic pressure is rejected. One chemical analysis and one tension test are made per lot, except that hot-forming quality carries no tension requirement. ASTM B423 leaves certification to the purchase order, and we furnish an EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) material test certificate with every shipment of seamless Incoloy 825 pipe. Independent third-party inspection is available on request.

UNS N08825 Seamless Pipe Chemical Composition

Nickel is held between 38.0 and 46.0%, and iron, set at 22.0% minimum, is determined arithmetically by difference. Chromium at 19.5 to 23.5%, molybdenum at 2.5 to 3.5%, copper at 1.5 to 3.0% and titanium at 0.6 to 1.2% are each controlled as ranges, and ASTM B423 prints no phosphorus limit for this alloy.

  • CrChromium, 19.5 to 23.5
  • FeIron, 22.0 min
  • MoMolybdenum, 2.5 to 3.5

Mechanical Properties of ASME SB-423 825 Seamless Pipe

ASTM B423 divides the tensile minimums for N08825 by supply condition, and one of its three conditions carries no tensile requirement at all.

ConditionTensile Strength, min, ksi (MPa)Yield Strength (0.2% offset), min, ksi (MPa)Elongation in 2 in. or 50 mm (4D), min (%)
Hot-finished annealed75 (517)25 (172)30
Cold-worked annealed85 (586)35 (241)30
Hot-forming quality (hot-finished or cold-drawn annealed)Not requiredNot requiredNot required

Swipe sideways to see the full table.

Cold-worked annealed pipe holds the higher tensile and yield minimums, so a wall calculated on its figures cannot simply be carried over to a hot-finished annealed length of the same size. Elongation stays at 30% in both annealed rows. Hot-forming quality is furnished to the chemical requirements and a surface inspection only, with no mechanical properties required. For hot-finished annealed and cold-worked annealed pipe, the lot tension result is read against the row the order names.

Equivalent Designations of Incoloy 825

Foreign drawings often call this material by a European or Japanese number. ASTM B423 assigns only the UNS number, so the W.Nr. and JIS entries below serve as cross-references for reading such a callout and do not claim conformity with those national standards.

  1. Commercial nameIncoloy 825, also written Alloy 825
  2. ASTM B423 / ASME SB-423 (USA)UNS N08825
  3. Europe (W.Nr.)2.4858
  4. Japan (JIS)NCF825

A requisition that quotes 2.4858 or NCF825 is entered against N08825, and the heat is reported against that UNS number.

Seamless WNR 2.4858 Pipe Sizes and Tolerances

Seamless WNR 2.4858 pipe is quoted from 6 mm to 457 mm OD with walls of 1 mm to 65 mm, in lengths up to 18 m, and each line is written as NPS and schedule. Pipe finished hot is held to the hot-worked pipe tolerances that apply under ASTM B423, printed in four bands from 1 in. (25 mm) to 9 1/4 in. (235 mm) OD:

Nominal OD, in. (mm)OD Tolerance, in. (mm)Wall Tolerance, Nominal WallWall Tolerance, Minimum Wall
1 (25) to 1.900 (48), incl+0.015 (0.40) / -0.031 (0.79)+16.0% / -12.5%+28.5% / 0
Over 1.900 (48) to 4 1/2 (114), incl±0.031 (0.79)+16.0% / -12.5%+28.5% / 0
Over 4 1/2 (114) to 6 1/2 (165), incl±0.047 (1.2)+16.0% / -12.5%+28.5% / 0
Over 6 1/2 (165) to 9 1/4 (235), incl±0.062 (1.6)+16.0% / -12.5%+28.5% / 0

Swipe sideways to see the full table.

Up to 5 in. (127 mm) OD, individual diameter readings include ovality. Above that size the mean diameter must fall within the table, and no single reading may vary by more than twice the tabulated figure. The hot-worked pipe table prints no band below 1 in. (25 mm) or above 9 1/4 in. (235 mm) OD, so if a size outside those bands is ordered finished hot, its diameter and wall limits are agreed and written into the quotation. Pipe finished cold is held to a separate, size-graded set of diameter and wall limits, generally closer than these, and the quotation states them for each line.

Cut Length, Straightness and Ends

A length ordered cut to length may not be shorter than the figure ordered. Below 2 in. (50.8 mm) OD it may run up to 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) long, and from 2 in. upward up to 3/16 in. (4.8 mm) long, for lengths up to 24 ft (7.3 m). Longer cuts gain a further 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) for each 10 ft (3 m) or part of it, to a maximum of 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) extra. Random lengths are agreed when the order is placed. Pipe leaves the mill reasonably straight and free of bends and kinks, with plain ends cut and deburred.

Delivery Conditions and Finishes for Alloy 825 Seamless Pipe

ASTM B423 recognizes hot-finished annealed, cold-worked annealed and hot-forming quality for N08825 and prints no annealing temperature for any of them. Its nonmandatory appendix describes the finishes each route normally delivers:

Cold-worked, annealed, with ground outside diameter: 1/2 to 4 in. (12.7 to 102 mm), in normal and heavy-wall sizes and in pipe sizes of all schedules.

Cold-worked, annealed and pickled, not ground: 1/2 to 6 5/8 in. (12.7 to 168 mm).

Pipe finished hot: the appendix lists hot-worked finishes for tube only, so the surface of hot-finished pipe is agreed with us when the order is placed.

The finish and the condition are written together on each line of an Alloy 825 seamless pipe order.

Choosing Seamless Incoloy 825 Pipe Against 925 and 904L

Incoloy 925 seamless pipes share the nickel, chromium, iron, molybdenum and copper windows of N08825 but come under their own product standard, with titanium at 1.90 to 2.40% against 0.6 to 1.2%, aluminum at 0.10 to 0.50% against a 0.2% maximum, carbon at 0.03% maximum against 0.05%, and up to 0.50% niobium. They are supplied solution annealed plus precipitation hardened, a condition outside the three that ASTM B423 lists for 825.

Where a duty does not call for a nickel alloy at all, stainless steel 904L seamless pipes are the lower-alloy option in our range. A line specified to UNS N08825 stays on seamless Incoloy 825 pipe.

Incoloy 825 Seamless Pipe FAQ

Which ASTM B423 delivery condition should the order name?

Cold-worked annealed, wherever the wall is calculated on strength: it carries 85 ksi (586 MPa) tensile and 35 ksi (241 MPa) yield minimums. Hot-finished annealed is held to 75 ksi (517 MPa) and 25 ksi (172 MPa), with the same 30% elongation. Name the condition on every line, because the certificate is read against that row.

When does hot-forming quality suit an N08825 order?

Only when the design does not rely on the ASTM B423 tensile minimums. Hot-forming quality is supplied hot-finished or cold-drawn annealed, to the chemical requirements and a surface inspection, with no tensile, yield or elongation minimums. For pressure lines sized on yield strength, order hot-finished annealed or cold-worked annealed instead, so a lot tension result appears on the certificate.

Should pipe finished hot be ordered on nominal or minimum wall?

On minimum wall when the pressure design uses the minimum thickness. A minimum-wall order accepts nothing below the stated figure and up to 28.5% above it, while a nominal-wall order allows a length to run 16.0% heavy or 12.5% light. Both limits apply from 1 in. (25 mm) to 9 1/4 in. (235 mm) OD.

How does Incoloy 825 compare with Incoloy 925 where a line needs more strength?

925 carries much higher minimums in its listed condition, solution annealed plus precipitation hardened: 140 ksi (965 MPa) tensile, 110 ksi (758 MPa) yield and 18% elongation. Cold-worked annealed 825 offers 85 ksi (586 MPa) and 35 ksi (241 MPa) with a 30% elongation minimum, suiting lines where the yield demand is lower.

What counts as one test lot on an ASTM B423 order?

Pipe from one heat, of one nominal size (length aside) and in one condition, and from one furnace charge when annealing is done in a batch furnace. The mill chooses between the hydrostatic and the electric test on each piece unless the purchase order names one, so write it in if your inspection plan fixes the method.

What does the certificate for an ASTM B423 order report?

The heat analysis against the ASTM B423 chemistry limits, the lot tension result against the condition you ordered (none for hot-forming quality), and confirmation of the hydrostatic or electric test on each piece. It is issued as EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request), and its heat number matches the marking on the pipe.

How should each line of an N08825 order be written?

By NPS and schedule first, followed by the delivery condition, cut or random length, quantity and certificate level. We quote outside diameters from 6 to 457 mm and walls from 1 to 65 mm, in lengths up to 18 m, and every line is checked against that envelope in the quotation.
