Offshore Topside Process Piping
Process piping and manifolds on FPSO vessels and fixed platforms carry chloride and H2S-bearing fluids under mechanical load, and the 550 MPa minimum yield keeps wall thickness and topside weight moderate.
ASTM A790 / ASME SA-790 / UNS S32760 / W.Nr. 1.4501
Thaida Stainless Steel Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. supplies ASTM A790 UNS S32760 super duplex steel seamless pipes from its Ban Bueng, Chonburi, Thailand factory, offering a tungsten- and copper-alloyed grade for seawater, firewater, offshore and sour gas piping. European drawings call the alloy EN 1.4501, and it is one of four grades in our super duplex steel seamless pipes range. Our office in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan prepares quotations, line-list reviews and shipping documents.

EN 10204 3.1 certificate / 3.2 on request
The table sets out what our Ban Bueng mill produces in UNS S32760 to ASTM A790. Size each line by NPS and schedule; where the design needs a wall between schedules, give the OD and wall in mm instead.
Every super duplex steel UNS S32760 seamless pipe we ship is produced, heat treated and tested to ASTM A790 / ASME SA-790. ASTM A790 is aimed at general corrosive duty and gives resistance to stress corrosion cracking the most attention. Its scope also flags embrittlement where these steels stay at elevated temperatures for prolonged periods, so list the operating temperature of any line routed near hot equipment when you send your inquiry. Heat exchanger and instrument duty, where tubing is ordered on OD and wall tolerances, is served by our ASTM A789 UNS S32760 seamless tubes.
Testing runs at two levels. Each finished length is proved one by one, either hydrostatically or with an ultrasonic or eddy current scan, and the order may name which. For lot release of ASME SA-790 S32760 seamless pipe, a lot of 100 pipes or fewer needs a single tension test and a bigger lot two, flattening is run on 5% of the lot's pipes, and two pipes are checked by Brinell or Rockwell against the 310 HBW / 32 HRC ceiling. Each heat's results are reported on the EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) certificate that accompanies the pipe.
Heat analysis limits in percent by weight under ASTM A790; a single figure is a maximum:
UNS S32760S32760
| Element | UNS S32760 (%) |
|---|---|
| C (Carbon) | 0.030 |
| Mn (Manganese) | 1.00 |
| P (Phosphorus) | 0.030 |
| S (Sulfur) | 0.010 |
| Si (Silicon) | 1.00 |
| Ni (Nickel) | 6.0 to 8.0 |
| Cr (Chromium) | 24.0 to 26.0 |
| Mo (Molybdenum) | 3.0 to 4.0 |
| N (Nitrogen) | 0.20 to 0.30 |
| Cu (Copper) | 0.50 to 1.00 |
| W (Tungsten) | 0.50 to 1.00 |
Compared with UNS S32750 seamless pipes, the chromium and nickel ranges are the same, but S32760 requires 0.50 to 1.00% copper where S32750 allows no more than 0.50%, adds 0.50 to 1.00% tungsten and narrows molybdenum to 3.0 to 4.0%. A790 also sets a pitting index for this grade: Cr + 3.3 (Mo + 0.5 W) + 16 N must reach at least 41, so tungsten counts toward the result alongside molybdenum.
| Property | ASTM A790 Requirement |
|---|---|
| Tensile Strength, min | 750 MPa (109 ksi) |
| Yield Strength, min | 550 MPa (80 ksi) |
| Elongation in 2 in. or 50 mm, min | 25% |
| Hardness, max | 310 HBW or 32 HRC |
The tensile value is a floor with no ceiling. Earlier editions of A790 gave UNS S32760 a 750 to 895 MPa band, and some older project specifications still carry that maximum; under the current standard a result above 895 MPa meets the tensile requirement, so name any upper limit your specification keeps when you order super duplex steel S32760 seamless pipe.
Cross-references for S32760, given for identification only; the order and the certificate stay on UNS S32760 and ASTM A790:
A790 lists no common name for S32760, so the UNS number, or 1.4501 on European drawings, is the reliable way to call up this alloy.
For large-bore seawater, firewater and cooling headers, the table lists ASTM A790 nominal walls in mm for NPS 14 to 24 next to the permitted OD variation for each size band. A790 tabulates Schedules 40S and 80S only up to NPS 12, so these bores are listed in 5S and 10S.
| NPS | OD (mm) | OD Tolerance (mm) | Sch 5S (mm) | Sch 10S (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 14 | 355.60 | +2.4 / -0.8 | 3.96 | 4.78 |
| 16 | 406.40 | +2.4 / -0.8 | 4.19 | 4.78 |
| 18 | 457.20 | +2.4 / -0.8 | 4.19 | 4.78 |
| 20 | 508.00 | +3.2 / -0.8 | 4.78 | 5.54 |
| 24 | 609.60 | +3.2 / -0.8 | 5.54 | 6.35 |

No wall in the table exceeds 3% of the OD, which makes these thin-wall sizes: OD is judged on the average of the largest and smallest readings, and out-of-roundness may not exceed 1.5% of the ordered OD. Wall thickness is held within +22.5% and -12.5% of nominal, and a cut length may exceed the ordered figure by up to 6 mm but never fall short of it. These walls are too thin for ANSI B1.20.1 threads under the A790 appendix note, so each seamless 1.4501 super duplex pipe in the table leaves the mill with plain or beveled ends for welding.
Pressure lines carrying chlorides, hydrogen sulfide or acids make up the main service for this grade. Where your design authority has approved a 22Cr grade for milder duty, our duplex steel seamless pipes cover that case.

Process piping and manifolds on FPSO vessels and fixed platforms carry chloride and H2S-bearing fluids under mechanical load, and the 550 MPa minimum yield keeps wall thickness and topside weight moderate.

Seawater intake, cooling water and firewater ring mains can run in the thin 5S and 10S schedules, and the alloy is selected to resist crevice attack under gaskets where seawater stagnates.

Subsea pipelines and flowlines carrying sour gas and crude see pressure and hydrogen sulfide inside and seawater outside, and every lot is hardness checked against the 32 HRC limit before release.

High-pressure reverse osmosis trains in seawater desalination plants carry concentrated brine, and the alloy withstands salt levels that cause standard stainless steel lines to fail early.

Piping around absorbers in sulfur recovery and amine treating units carries mixed reducing and oxidizing acid gas streams, and the A790 pitting index of at least 41 gives the chemistry a defined floor.

Chemical plants route hot organic acids and chloride-rich solutions through S32760 transfer lines, reducing how often systems that handle reactive media must be opened for repair.

As a guide, ASTM A790 UNS S32760 seamless pipe is currently quoted at around USD 8 to 14 per kg. The range is indicative: where your figure settles depends on NPS, schedule, run length, tonnage and any supplementary tests, with small-bore sizes and heavy walls toward the top. A line list from you turns this range into a firm price for each size.
Indicative only. Send your sizes and specification to Thaida for a firm quotation.
Each super duplex steel UNS S32760 seamless pipe on your order is made from a heated billet pierced into a hollow shell, cold rolled or cold drawn, solution annealed, quenched and tested in the Ban Bueng works at 154 Moo.1 Map Phai, Ban Bueng, Chonburi 20170, Thailand. Our Bang Phli office at 89/18 Moo.15 Enterprize Park, Bangna-Trad Road, Bang Kaeo, Bang Phli, Samut Prakan 10540, Thailand reviews line lists, answers technical queries and issues the order documents. Quotations for UNS S32760 seamless pipe list every size against the schedule or wall you specify.
Yes. ASTM A790 lets the mill furnish other dimensions provided the pipe still satisfies all remaining requirements, so heavier large-bore walls are ordered by outside diameter and wall thickness instead of schedule. Our range runs to 65 mm wall and 720 mm OD, which takes in NPS 24 at 609.6 mm OD.
Yes, with conditions. NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 lists UNS S32760 as a qualifying material for sour service in H2S-containing environments, subject to hardness and heat treatment requirements. Quote MR0175 / ISO 15156 on your inquiry; lot hardness results go on the certificate, and heat treatment charts can be supplied for review against it.
Yes, when ordered. ASTM A790 supplementary requirement S2 adds a transverse tension test for pipe larger than NPS 8, so it can be specified on every size from NPS 14 to 24. Name S2 on the order, and add S1 (product analysis), S3 (a flattening test on every length) or S4 (etching) where your inspection plan needs them.
The wall stress S in P = 2St/D is 275 MPa, which ASTM A790 sets at 50% of the 550 MPa yield minimum. Every NPS 14 to 24 size in our table is over 88.9 mm OD, so the required pressure is capped at 19.0 MPa, and each tested length holds pressure for no less than 5 seconds.
Either grade can be specified; ASTM A790 gives the two grades different chemistries and mechanical minimums, so the line specification should name one. On tensile strength S32750 sets the higher floor, 800 MPa against 750 MPa; on ductility S32760 asks for 25% elongation where S32750 asks for 15%. Both share the 550 MPa yield minimum.
No. A790 accepts seamless pipe on chemistry, the pitting index of at least 41, solution annealing at 1070 to 1140 °C, mechanical and hardness results and the hydrostatic or electric test; no corrosion test is set. A pitting test your project requires is quoted as an extra, run to the method and acceptance limits written into your inquiry.
An EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) certificate listing the heat number, chemical analysis, tension, flattening and hardness results and the hydrostatic or electric test, with 100% PMI records and heat treatment charts alongside. Third-party inspection can be added on request and held at our Ban Bueng factory before dispatch.
