Subsea and Offshore Lines
Subsea lines and offshore seawater systems use the alloy where high-velocity seawater meets mechanical load, keeping the corrosion resistance of the nickel-copper base at the higher strength of the age-hardened condition.
UNS N05500 / W.Nr. 2.4375
Monel K500 seamless pipes bring age-hardened strength to nickel-copper alloy process lines, and Thaida Stainless Steel Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. produces them at its mill in Ban Bueng, Chonburi, Thailand, for subsea, sour-well and chemical plant service. The alloy is UNS N05500, W.Nr. 2.4375, the age-hardenable grade of our Monel seamless pipes range, and each item is supplied to the terms written on the purchase order. Quotations and certificates come from our office in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan.

EN 10204 3.1 certificate / 3.2 on request
Each line of seamless Monel K500 pipe is called up by nominal pipe size and schedule, or by outside diameter and wall. The table gives the size envelope, the usual delivery condition and the certificate; tolerances and tests are fixed on the purchase order.
Monel K500 has no ASTM seamless pipe standard of its own, since ASTM B165 covers UNS N04400 only, the alloy of our Monel 400 seamless pipes. The purchase order therefore acts as the specification for every UNS N05500 seamless pipe item: it states the material, condition, dimensions, tolerances and tests, and our certificate reports the pipe against those terms.
With no standard test regime to fall back on, each test is an order item. The tests named on the order are carried out before release and reported on an EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) certificate together with the heat chemistry.
K500 keeps the nickel-copper base of Monel 400, with nickel at 63% minimum, and adds aluminum and titanium, the two elements that make age hardening possible. Monel 400 carries no aluminum or titanium requirement, so these two rows separate the grades most clearly on a certificate.

The heat analysis for each order of seamless alloy 2.4375 pipe is reported on the certificate.
A Monel 400 line takes its strength minimums from its product standard. For K500 the properties follow the delivery condition, so the purchase order sets out what each seamless nickel alloy K500 pipe has to meet. A complete order line covers the items below.
| Order item | What the order states |
|---|---|
| Material | Monel K500, UNS N05500; W.Nr. 2.4375 where the drawing uses it |
| Delivery condition | Solution-treated and age-hardened (precipitation-hardened), or another condition agreed in advance |
| Size and length | Nominal pipe size and schedule, or outside diameter and wall; cut or random lengths up to 18 m |
| Tolerances | Outside diameter, wall and length tolerances to be held |
| Tests | Eddy current or ultrasonic examination, hydrostatic test, positive material identification (PMI), and any property tests the design calls for |
| Inspection | Third-party or witness inspection, where the project requires it |
| Certificate | EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) |
K500 is normally delivered solution-treated and age-hardened (precipitation-hardened), and other conditions are supplied by agreement. The properties depend on that condition, so the certificate reports the pipe in the condition named on the order, with the results of any property tests listed there. If the pipe will be welded, formed or heat treated after delivery, describe that sequence in the inquiry so the condition can be agreed against it.
Among our other precipitation-hardened grades, Incoloy 925 seamless pipes rest on a nickel-iron-chromium base, while K500 keeps the nickel-copper base of Monel 400.
Monel K500 reaches us on drawings under its commercial name, its UNS number or its European material number. They identify one alloy, and UNS N05500 is the designation on our certificate.
We produce seamless 2.4375 pipe from 6 mm to 457 mm outside diameter and 1 mm to 65 mm wall, in lengths up to 18 m. Lines on a piping specification are called up by nominal pipe size and schedule, and the quotation confirms the outside diameter and wall of each size.
No standard tolerance table applies to this grade, so the outside diameter, wall and length tolerances are agreed on the order, taken from the project specification or proposed in our offer. Small-bore instrument and heat-exchanger items dimensioned by outside diameter and wall are supplied as Monel K500 seamless tubes.
Alloy K500 seamless pipe is chosen where a line needs the corrosion resistance of a nickel-copper alloy together with the strength of the age-hardened condition.

Subsea lines and offshore seawater systems use the alloy where high-velocity seawater meets mechanical load, keeping the corrosion resistance of the nickel-copper base at the higher strength of the age-hardened condition.

Sour-well lines and separators handling hydrogen sulfide and chloride-rich produced fluids are specified in UNS N05500 seamless pipe, with the delivery condition and the test plan written into each order.

Process reactor connections, alkali handling lines and acid heat-exchanger circuits in chemical plants take seamless alloy 2.4375 pipe, including lines carrying hydrofluoric acid, hydrochloric acid or brine.

Digestion plants in pulp and paper mills route corrosive process streams through Alloy K500 seamless pipe, called up by pipe size and schedule like the rest of the plant piping.

Desalination units and food processing plants that handle saline water install seamless WNR 2.4375 pipe where the line must resist salt water and carry the strength of an age-hardened alloy.

Sterilization lines in pharmaceutical plants are built from seamless 2.4375 pipe, with PMI and the other tests agreed on the order reported on the certificate for each heat.

Its aluminum and titanium. K500 carries 2.30 to 3.15% aluminum and 0.35 to 0.85% titanium on a nickel-copper base with 63% minimum nickel, and these additions allow precipitation hardening. Monel 400 has no aluminum or titanium requirement, can be hardened only by cold work and is supplied annealed or stress-relieved.
Yes, by agreement. The usual delivery condition is solution-treated and age-hardened (precipitation-hardened), the condition that develops the alloy's higher strength. If your fabrication route calls for a different one, raise it at the inquiry stage, because the condition fixes the properties the certificate reports and has to be settled before production starts.
The tolerances and the test plan. A Monel 400 order takes its tests, and most of its tolerances, from its product standard, while a K500 order spells both out together with the delivery condition. List the outside diameter, wall and length tolerances, the tests, such as eddy current or ultrasonic, hydrostatic or PMI, and any witness inspection.
In the age-hardened condition K500 is considerably stronger and harder than Monel 400, while its corrosion resistance in seawater, acids and alkalis is similar. Choose it when the design needs that extra strength, as in sour-well or subsea lines; Monel 400 suits lines where strength is not the limit and a product standard has to govern the order.
Yes. W.Nr. 2.4375 is the European material number and UNS N05500 the US designation for the same alloy, Monel K500, also written Alloy K-500. Our certificate identifies the pipe by UNS N05500, so when a drawing calls for seamless WNR 2.4375 pipe, quote the W.Nr. on the inquiry and we cross-reference it in the offer.
The EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) certificate states UNS N05500, the heat number, the heat chemistry, the delivery condition and the result of every test listed on the order, and heat treatment charts can accompany it. Third-party inspection is available on request when the project needs the tests witnessed independently.
Outside diameter runs from 6 mm to 457 mm, wall from 1 mm to 65 mm and length up to 18 m. Lines are called up by pipe size and schedule, or by outside diameter and wall where a size falls outside the schedule system, and the offer confirms each size with the tolerances agreed for it.
