Incoloy 028 Seamless Pipes Manufacturer in Thailand

ASTM A312 lists this alloy by UNS number alone, so UNS N08028 is the designation marked on each length and printed on its certificate, while Incoloy 028 remains the commercial name on drawings and requisitions. ASME SA-312 is the related specification for Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code applications, which is why code projects call for ASME SA-312 UNS N08028 seamless pipe. A312 sets one solution treatment for the grade, 2000 °F (1100 °C) minimum followed by a water quench or other rapid cooling, and every length we ship is furnished in that condition. For evaporator and exchanger bundles, the same alloy is made as Incoloy 028 seamless tubes under a separate tube specification.

Every length passes either a hydrostatic test or a nondestructive electric test, and the electric test is eddy current or ultrasonic. Flattening tests are made on 5% of the pipes in each lot, while one tension test covers a lot of up to 100 pipes and two tests cover a larger lot. Product analysis (S1) and an intergranular corrosion test to ASTM A262 Practice E (S7) are carried out when the order names them. Each shipment of seamless WNR 1.4563 pipe travels with an EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) material test certificate, and third-party inspection is available on request.

Chemical Composition of Seamless WNR 1.4563 Pipe

Chromium at 26.0 to 28.0% and nickel at 30.0 to 34.0% form the base of N08028, with molybdenum held at 3.0 to 4.0% and copper at 0.60 to 1.4%. Carbon is capped at 0.030%, and iron makes up the balance. The certificate reports the heat analysis against the limits below.

  • NiNickel, 30.0 to 34.0
  • CrChromium, 26.0 to 28.0
  • MoMolybdenum, 3.0 to 4.0
  • MnManganese, 2.50 max

Mechanical Properties of Seamless 1.4563 Alloy Pipe

ASTM A312 gives N08028 a single row of tensile minimums, with elongation stated for longitudinal specimens, and it sets no hardness requirement for the grade.

PropertyMinimum
Tensile Strength500 MPa (73 ksi)
Yield Strength214 MPa (31 ksi)
Elongation in 2 in. or 50 mm (or 4D), longitudinal40%

The lot tension result for seamless 1.4563 alloy pipe is reported on the certificate against these three minimums, so each delivered heat can be checked directly against the A312 row.

Equivalent Designations of Incoloy 028

Engineering documents prepared in Europe may name the material by W.Nr. 1.4563 or by its EN steel name. Since ASTM A312 identifies the grade only by UNS number, the European rows below help match such a callout to N08028 and are listed for cross-reference.

  1. Commercial nameIncoloy 028, also written Alloy 28
  2. ASTM A312 / ASME SA-312 (USA)UNS N08028
  3. Europe (W.Nr.)1.4563
  4. Europe (EN steel name)X1NiCrMoCu31-27-4

A requisition that quotes 1.4563 or X1NiCrMoCu31-27-4 is entered against UNS N08028, and the heat is reported against that UNS number.

Sizes and Ordering Basis for Seamless Alloy 028 Pipe

Seamless alloy 028 pipe is made to the dimensions on each order line rather than drawn from a stock size list. A line can be written by NPS and schedule, using the ASME B36.19 dimensions that A312 tabulates, or by outside diameter and wall taken from a drawing. A312 accepts pipe of other dimensions provided it meets every other requirement of the standard, so a UNS N08028 seamless pipe line written by outside diameter and wall is quoted on the same basis as a scheduled size.

Permitted Wall and Length Variations

Any length may run 12.5% under the ordered nominal wall. On the plus side, the variations that apply under A312 allow 20.0% on small-bore NPS sizes, while larger sizes are allowed 22.5% where the wall is 5% of the outside diameter or less and 15.0% where it is heavier. A definite cut length is never shorter than ordered, with only a small allowance over.

Welding and Fabrication of Seamless Incoloy 028 Pipe

Carbon in N08028 is capped at 0.030%, and that low carbon level keeps the microstructure resistant to sensitization during welding. The alloy forms and welds well with matched filler metal, so seamless Incoloy 028 pipe is joined into acid-service spools by welding. Cut lengths follow your spool list, and every length carries its heat number, so each spool piece stays traceable to its certificate after cutting.

Incoloy 028 Seamless Pipe Compared with 825, 926 and Alloy 31

Incoloy 825 seamless pipes come under ASTM B423 rather than A312, and their chemistry is balanced differently: nickel at 38.0 to 46.0%, chromium at 19.5 to 23.5%, molybdenum at 2.5 to 3.5%, copper at 1.5 to 3.0% and titanium at 0.6 to 1.2%. N08028 carries higher chromium and lower nickel and copper bands under A312, with no titanium requirement.

Two other grades in our range carry 6.0 to 7.0% molybdenum with 0.15 to 0.25% nitrogen, against 3.0 to 4.0% molybdenum and no nitrogen requirement for N08028. Alloy 926 seamless pipes, also listed by UNS number in A312, hold chromium at 19.0 to 21.0% and nickel at 24.0 to 26.0%. Alloy 31 seamless pipes are made to ASTM B622 with chromium at 26.0 to 28.0%, nickel at 30.0 to 32.0% and copper at 1.0 to 1.4%. A line list that names UNS N08028 stays on that grade.

Incoloy 028 Seamless Pipe FAQ

Which designation should the purchase order carry for this alloy?

ASTM A312 UNS N08028 seamless pipe, with ASME SA-312 added for Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code work. A line written only as Incoloy 028 or 1.4563 leaves the product standard open, so state the standard and the UNS number and keep the commercial name or W.Nr. as a drawing reference.

Which elements carry no A312 limit in N08028?

Nitrogen, titanium, niobium, tantalum, vanadium, aluminum, boron and cerium. A312 prints no requirement for them in this grade, and an element without a requirement need not be determined or reported. Iron is not tabulated either, since it forms the balance, so a certificate showing no nitrogen or iron figure still complies.

How are sizes specified when every dimension is made to order?

By NPS and schedule, or by outside diameter and wall from your drawing, plus the cut length and quantity. Choose one basis per line and keep it: A312 marking shows the NPS or outside diameter with the schedule or average wall, so the format on your order is the one marked on each length and checked at receiving inspection.

Can the order fix the hydrostatic test instead of the electric test?

Yes. A312 leaves the choice to the manufacturer only when the purchase order is silent, so name hydrostatic, eddy current or ultrasonic testing on the inquiry if your plan fixes one. The certificate states whether the pipe was hydrostatically tested or, for the electric test, which practice and reference discontinuities were used.

Does solution treatment above 1100 °C still meet A312 for this grade?

Yes. A312 sets 2000 °F (1100 °C) as a minimum for N08028, with no upper limit printed, followed by a water quench or other rapid cooling. That differs from Alloy 926, which A312 holds to a range of 2010 to 2100 °F (1100 to 1150 °C).

When is the intergranular corrosion test worth ordering?

When your specification asks for proof against intergranular attack. A312 supplementary requirement S7 applies ASTM A262 Practice E only when the order names it. N08028 contains 3.0 to 4.0% molybdenum, and for grades above 3% molybdenum A312 leaves the applicability of the test and the sample preparation to agreement between purchaser and manufacturer.

How do the strength minimums of Incoloy 028 and Incoloy 825 compare?

Through different standards and conditions: A312 sets one row for N08028, 500 MPa (73 ksi) tensile and 214 MPa (31 ksi) yield. ASTM B423 splits Incoloy 825 by condition, 586 MPa (85 ksi) and 241 MPa (35 ksi) cold-worked annealed, or 517 MPa (75 ksi) and 172 MPa (25 ksi) hot-finished annealed. Size the wall on the governing row.
