Sour Gas Wells
Downhole equipment and surface components in sour gas wells carrying hydrogen sulfide are built from UNS N09925 seamless pipe, delivered precipitation hardened with chemistry and tension results certified for each lot.
ASTM B983 / UNS N09925
Supplied solution annealed plus precipitation hardened, Incoloy 925 seamless pipes from Thaida Stainless Steel Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. are produced to ASTM B983 at our mill in Ban Bueng, Chonburi, Thailand, for sour oil and gas wells, offshore platforms and chemical plants. The alloy is UNS N09925, the precipitation-hardened grade within our Incoloy seamless pipes range, and every certificate carries that number. Our office in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan handles quotations and export documents.

Pipe is ordered by standard pipe size and schedule. The table gives the diameter, wall and length we produce, the one delivery condition B983 tabulates for N09925, and the tests completed before an Incoloy 925 seamless pipe order is released.
ASTM B983, Standard Specification for Precipitation Hardened or Cold Worked, Seamless Nickel Alloy Pipe and Tube, is the product standard for every ASTM B983 Incoloy 925 seamless pipe we make. Its scope names eight nickel alloys by UNS number, N09925 among them. Incoloy 925 and Alloy 925 are the commercial names used on requisitions, while the standard, our marking and our certificates carry UNS N09925. The same standard covers UNS N07718, which we produce as Inconel 718 seamless pipes. Our Incoloy 925 seamless tubes are also made to B983, but they are ordered by outside diameter, minimum or average wall and length instead of pipe size and schedule.
Every length passes either a hydrostatic test or a nondestructive electric test, and each lot receives one chemical analysis and one tension test. Tension specimens are taken after the final heat treatment and tested in the direction of fabrication. Heat chemistry and lot results are reported on an EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) material test certificate, and third-party inspection is available on request.
UNS N09925 seamless pipe has a nickel-iron-chromium base with molybdenum and copper; ASTM B983 also sets titanium at 1.90 to 2.40% and aluminum at 0.10 to 0.50%, while niobium is capped at 0.50% and carbon at 0.03%. B983 prints the niobium row under its older name, columbium.
UNS N09925925
| Element | Limit per ASTM B983 (%) |
|---|---|
| Ni (Nickel) | 38.0 to 46.0 |
| Cr (Chromium) | 19.5 to 23.5 |
| Fe (Iron) | 22.0 min |
| Mo (Molybdenum) | 2.50 to 3.50 |
| Cu (Copper) | 1.50 to 3.00 |
| Ti (Titanium) | 1.90 to 2.40 |
| Al (Aluminum) | 0.10 to 0.50 |
| Nb (Niobium) | 0.50 max |
| C (Carbon) | 0.03 max |
| Mn (Manganese) | 1.00 max |
| Si (Silicon) | 0.50 max |
| S (Sulfur) | 0.030 max |
Set beside Incoloy 825 seamless pipes, the nickel, chromium, iron, molybdenum and copper limits are identical. The two alloys part in four elements: titanium is 1.90 to 2.40% against 0.6 to 1.2% in 825, aluminum 0.10 to 0.50% against 0.2% max, carbon 0.03% max against 0.05% max, and 925 carries a niobium limit that 825 lacks. The iron figure is a minimum, and B983 allows it to be determined arithmetically by difference.
ASTM B983 lists a single room-temperature row for N09925, tied to the solution annealed plus precipitation hardened condition, and every lot of seamless nickel alloy 925 pipe is tension tested against it.
| Property | Value | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Condition | Solution annealed plus precipitation hardened | |
| Tensile Strength, min | 965 (140) | MPa (ksi) |
| Yield Strength, min | 758 (110) | MPa (ksi) |
| Elongation in 2 in. (50 mm) or 4D, min | 18 | % |
| Hardness, max | 38 | Rockwell C |
Three of the values are minimums, and hardness is the exception: the row caps it at Rockwell C 38, so the pipe has to reach its strength without exceeding that ceiling.
Incoloy 925 reaches us on drawings under its commercial name or its UNS number. ASTM B983 identifies the alloy by its UNS number only, and that is the designation certified for every heat.
Each seamless Incoloy 925 pipe is delivered solution annealed plus precipitation hardened, the condition in which ASTM B983 tabulates N09925 properties, and it is descaled unless the furnace runs under atmosphere control, which B983 accepts in place of descaling. B983 prints its annealing and hardening cycles as recommended treatments; the requirement is the delivered condition and its property row, and the mill sets its cycle to meet both.
Ends are furnished plain, cut and deburred, ready for the bevel your welding procedure specifies. Because the certified properties belong to the precipitation-hardened condition, send the welding procedure and any heat treatment planned after welding with the inquiry, and we review them against the condition the pipe is delivered in.
We produce Alloy 925 seamless pipe from 6 mm to 457 mm outside diameter and 1 mm to 65 mm wall, in lengths up to 18 m. Each line is called up by standard pipe size and schedule, and the quotation confirms the outside diameter and wall for every size.
ASTM B983 runs two dimensional regimes. Clause 14.1 applies its own hot-worked pipe table to pipe finished hot, and that table continues past 9 1/4 in. (235 mm) to 24 in. (610 mm). Clause 14.2 governs the dimensions, straightness, ovality and permissible variations of precipitation-hardened and cold-worked pipe, so each quotation names the set that governs the size and condition ordered.

The smallest band opens with a tighter plus than minus allowance, while every band from 48 mm upward is symmetrical. Our pipe range ends at 457 mm, so the final band of the table reaches beyond the largest size we make.
Seamless 925 pipe is chosen where a line needs precipitation-hardened strength from a nickel-iron-chromium alloy that also carries molybdenum and copper.

Downhole equipment and surface components in sour gas wells carrying hydrogen sulfide are built from UNS N09925 seamless pipe, delivered precipitation hardened with chemistry and tension results certified for each lot.

Completion tubing and production casing for high-pressure, high-temperature wells are run in seamless nickel alloy 925 pipe, giving the string its strength and corrosion resistance from one alloy.

Gathering lines and compression piping that move sour gas from the wellhead toward processing use Alloy 925 seamless pipe, ordered by pipe size and schedule like any other process line.

Piping on offshore platforms in marine service uses seamless Incoloy 925 pipe, supplied with plain, deburred ends that suit welding on site or in the fabrication yard.

Reactor and heat-exchanger piping in chemical plants takes seamless 925 pipe where the process line calls for a precipitation-hardened nickel alloy with molybdenum and copper in its chemistry.

Power stations run the seamless pipe in corrosive-fluid lines and in heat-exchanger and condenser connections, with every length hydrostatically or electrically tested before it leaves the mill.

Incoloy 925 seamless pipe is indicatively priced at USD 22 to 50 per kg. An order's place in that range follows the nickel market first, then the solution anneal and precipitation-hardening treatment that every length receives, and then the size range, lot quantity and lead time, since fewer stockists offer this alloy as seamless pipe than as bar. Send your size list and quantities for a dated quotation.
Indicative only. Send your sizes and specification to Thaida for a firm quotation.
Our mill is at 154 Moo.1 Map Phai, Ban Bueng, Chonburi 20170, Thailand, and our sales and export office is at 89/18 Moo.15 Enterprize Park, Bangna-Trad Road, Bang Kaeo, Bang Phli, Samut Prakan 10540, Thailand. We supply Incoloy 925 seamless pipes to projects across Thailand and export to Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and India.
Seamless 925 pipe comes solution annealed plus precipitation hardened, the only condition for which ASTM B983 gives N09925 a property row, although its scope also lists cold-worked conditions. That is the condition we produce and certify, so the tension result on every certificate has a B983 minimum to be judged against.
Choose 925 when the design needs the higher yield: it is delivered precipitation hardened with a 758 MPa yield minimum, while 825, supplied annealed, has a 172 or 241 MPa yield minimum, hot finished or cold worked respectively. Both carry the same nickel, chromium, iron, molybdenum and copper limits, and 925 carries titanium at 1.90 to 2.40%.
ASTM B983 sets hardness as a limit, Rockwell C 38 maximum, in the N09925 property row, and fixes no hardness-test frequency; the lot test it requires is the tension test. When your specification calls for hardness readings per lot, state it on the order and the readings are reported on the certificate.
Order it by standard pipe size and schedule, which sets a nominal wall. For pipe finished hot, ASTM B983 gives these sizes +16.0% / -12.5% on nominal wall but no minimum-wall figure, with ±3.05 mm on OD up to 356 mm and ±5.08 mm up to 610 mm. For precipitation-hardened pipe, the wall basis is confirmed in the quotation.
ASTM B983 allows a retest on two additional specimens, each cut from a different sample piece, and both must meet the requirements. Because the tension test is made once per lot, the retest result stands for the lot the specimen represents.
Cite ASTM B983 and UNS N09925, then list each line by standard pipe size and schedule with length and quantity. The delivery condition is solution annealed plus precipitation hardened, and ends come plain, cut and deburred. Add any extra tests, such as hardness readings or witnessed inspection, and the certificate type.
Outside diameter runs from 6 mm to 457 mm, wall from 1 mm to 65 mm, and length up to 18 m. Sizes are quoted by standard pipe size and schedule, and a list that mixes metric and imperial callouts is priced line by line in one offer.
An EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) certificate states ASTM B983, UNS N09925 and the delivery condition, with heat chemistry against the B983 limits, the lot tension results and the hydrostatic or electric test record for each length. B983 calls for certification when the order specifies it, and we issue one with every order.
