ASTM A312 / ASME SA-312 / UNS S30400 / W.Nr. 1.4301
We are Thaida Stainless Steel Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd., a manufacturer of ASTM A312 TP304 stainless steel seamless pipes based in Ban Bueng, Chonburi, Thailand, producing pipe for process, water, food and utility lines. Grade 304, designated UNS S30400 and WNR 1.4301, is the general-purpose 18/8 grade in our stainless steel seamless pipes range. Our office is in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan, where each line list is quoted by NPS and schedule or by OD and wall.

EN 10204 3.1 certificate / 3.2 on request
The table sets out sizes, end finishes and delivery condition for every SS 304 seamless pipe we release.
For heat exchanger and instrument duty sized by exact OD and wall rather than NPS, we make stainless steel 304 seamless tubes in our tube range.
ASTM A312 / ASME SA-312 is the governing standard for ASTM A312 TP304 stainless steel seamless pipe. It fixes the TP304 chemistry and tensile limits, calls for solution annealing, and requires a production route with no welding at any stage. Standard sizes follow ASME B36.19M for schedules 5S to 80S and ASME B36.10M for heavier walls.
The document pack for each heat pairs our EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) material test certificate with PMI results on every length, the heat treatment charts, the raw material certificate and dimensional and surface roughness checks. A laboratory test certificate from a government-approved lab can be added, and third-party inspection is available on request.
TP304 balances approximately 18% chromium against 8% nickel, with carbon held to 0.08% maximum. ASTM A312 sets no molybdenum, titanium, niobium or nitrogen requirement for TP304.
Limits per ASTM A312 / ASME SA-312, reported for each heat on the certificate of every seamless S30400 stainless steel pipe we ship:
UNS S30400304
| Element | TP304 Limit (%) |
|---|---|
| C (Carbon) | 0.08 max |
| Mn (Manganese) | 2.00 max |
| P (Phosphorus) | 0.045 max |
| S (Sulfur) | 0.030 max |
| Si (Silicon) | 1.00 max |
| Cr (Chromium) | 18.0 to 20.0 |
| Ni (Nickel) | 8.0 to 11.0 |
These are ASTM A312 minimums for TP304 in the solution-annealed condition, and the certificate for each seamless 1.4301 stainless steel pipe reports the actual values tested on its lot. A312 sets no hardness requirement for this grade.
| Property | Value | Unit |

Stainless steel 304 carries these designations in American, European, ISO, Japanese, Chinese, Russian and British systems.
Within 6 to 1016 mm OD and 1 to 65 mm wall, we make seamless stainless steel 304 pipe to the NPS and schedule on your line list or to drawing dimensions. For the process and utility bores most often run in 304, nominal walls in mm from the ASTM A312 dimension table (based on ASME B36.19) are:
| NPS (in) | OD (mm) | Sch 10S | Sch 40S | Sch 80S |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1/2 | 21.3 | 2.11 | 2.77 | 3.73 |
| 4 | 114.3 | 3.05 | 6.02 | 8.56 |
| 8 | 219.1 | 3.76 | 8.18 | 12.70 |
| 12 | 323.9 | 4.57 | 9.53 | 12.70 |
Swipe sideways to see the full table.
Sch 5S walls, bores above NPS 12 and heavier ASME B36.10M walls such as Sch 160 and XXS are produced within the same 1016 mm OD and 65 mm wall range.
ASTM A312 limits wall thickness, as a percentage of the nominal wall, by NPS and by the ratio of wall to OD:
| NPS | Wall up to 5% of OD | Wall over 5% of OD |
|---|---|---|
| 1/8 to 2-1/2 | +20.0% / -12.5% | +20.0% / -12.5% |
| 3 to 18 | +22.5% / -12.5% | +15.0% / -12.5% |
| 20 and larger | +22.5% / -12.5% | +15.0% / -12.5% |
Outside diameter tolerances that apply to A312 pipe:
| DN | NPS | OD Tolerance (mm) |
|---|---|---|
| 6 to 40 | 1/8 to 1-1/2 | +0.4 / -0.8 |
| Over 40 to 100 | Over 1-1/2 to 4 | +0.8 / -0.8 |
| Over 100 to 200 | Over 4 to 8 | +1.6 / -0.8 |
| Over 200 to 450 | Over 8 to 18 | +2.4 / -0.8 |
| Over 450 to 650 | Over 18 to 26 | +3.2 / -0.8 |
| Over 650 to 850 | Over 26 to 34 | +4.0 / -0.8 |
| Over 850 to 1200 | Over 34 to 48 | +4.8 / -0.8 |
Where the wall is no more than 3% of the OD, the OD is judged on the average of the largest and smallest readings, and out-of-roundness is capped at 1.5% of the specified OD. Cut lengths carry no minus tolerance and at most 6 mm (1/4 in.) over the ordered length.
For fresh water, food, pharmaceutical and general utility lines, 304 is the economical starting point, and two service conditions move a line to another grade. The first is thick-wall welding: when heavy joints cannot be solution annealed after fabrication, the heat-affected zone of 304 can sensitize to intergranular attack, so those spools are better made from low-carbon 304L seamless pipes.
The second is hot chloride service. Chloride-bearing water hotter than 60 °C makes stress corrosion cracking the governing risk for 304, and molybdenum-bearing stainless steel 316 seamless pipes or a duplex grade becomes the option to evaluate.
Stainless steel 304 seamless pipes are specified across food, pharmaceutical, chemical, water, refinery and building services wherever general corrosion resistance and a clean surface matter.

Product transfer, clean-in-place supply and return, and dairy and brewing lines run on seamless stainless steel 304 pipe, supplied pickled and passivated or polished so that product contact surfaces stay easy to clean.

Purified process streams, utility headers and transfer piping in pharmaceutical plants use grade 304 where the duty is free of chlorides, with bright annealed or polished finishes available for hygienic sections.

Reagent transfer, solvent and general process lines in chemical plants take 304 stainless steel seamless pipe for general corrosive service, with the medium and its concentration confirmed with us at inquiry.

Treated water mains, filtration headers and chemical dosing lines in municipal and industrial treatment plants use grade 304. Where the water is hot and chloride-bearing, we review 316 for the line instead.

In refineries and petrochemical plants, UNS S30400 seamless pipe serves low-pressure lines and cooling systems, ordered by NPS and schedule from the same line list as the rest of the plant piping.

Exposed water, drainage and process piping in commercial and public buildings uses grade 304 for its clean appearance, ordered in polished, brushed or mirror finish and cut to length for installation.

Stainless steel 304 seamless pipe to ASTM A312 is indicatively priced at USD 2.5 to 5 per kg. Nickel, at about 8% of the alloy, moves the base rate, while very small bore, heavy wall and large OD sizes sit at the top of the range. Testing, finish, length and quantity set the final figure, so send your size list for a firm quotation.
Indicative only. Send your sizes and specification to Thaida for a firm quotation.
Every ASTM A312 TP304 stainless steel seamless pipe we sell is produced at our factory, 154 Moo.1 Map Phai, Ban Bueng, Chonburi 20170, Thailand. Quotations and export papers are handled by our office at 89/18 Moo.15 Enterprize Park, Bangna-Trad Road, Bang Kaeo, Bang Phli, Samut Prakan 10540, Thailand. Pipe ships to sites throughout Thailand and to Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and India.
Only to a limited extent. Above 60 °C, chlorides put 304 at risk of stress corrosion cracking, so hot brine and heated wash-water lines are candidates for 316, which carries 2 to 3% molybdenum, or for a duplex grade. Tell us the chloride content and the maximum line temperature and we will recommend the grade.
Plain, beveled or threaded. We cut and bevel at the mill before dispatch and protect every end for transit, so beveled lengths arrive ready for butt welding. Threading is limited to walls heavier than Sch 10S, because Sch 5S and 10S walls are too thin to thread. Name the end type for each line item.
It depends on the schedule. At NPS 8 (219.1 mm OD), Sch 10S at 3.76 mm and Sch 40S at 8.18 mm are within 5% of the OD and take +22.5% / -12.5%, while Sch 80S at 12.70 mm exceeds 5% and takes +15.0% / -12.5%. Base pressure calculations on the minimum wall.
Yes, for NPS 10 and larger. ASTM A312 lets you waive the mill hydrostatic test, with our agreement, when you pressure-test the installed system instead; each length shipped without it is marked NH. Below NPS 10, every length gets a hydrostatic or nondestructive electric test, our choice unless your order names one.
Yes. Besides NPS sizes to ASME B36.19M and B36.10M, we make drawing-based OD and wall combinations anywhere within 6 to 1016 mm OD and 1 to 65 mm wall, in lengths up to 18 m. ASTM A312 permits other dimensions when every other requirement is met, so the pipe still ships with a TP304 certificate.
Yes. Grade 304 stays austenitic at sub-zero temperatures and keeps its impact toughness, so it suits cold process lines. Impact testing can be listed on the manufacturer test certificate; give the test temperature on your order and we add it to the test plan.
Yes. Intergranular corrosion testing to ASTM A262 is added when your order calls for it; under ASTM A312 it is Supplementary Requirement S7, performed only when specified. Every length is solution annealed at 1040 °C (1900 °F) minimum and rapidly cooled to prevent carbide re-precipitation, which is what the test confirms.
Heat chemistry checked against the TP304 limits, actual tensile and elongation results, and the test record for every length, issued as EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request). UNS S30400 is stated on the certificate, and 1.4301 is cross-referenced when your drawing calls for seamless WNR 1.4301 pipe.
