Heat Exchangers and Coolers
Coolers, heaters and condensers on clean water, steam and low-chloride streams run on straight seamless TP304 tube; A213 asks that tube ends survive expanding and beading into the tubesheet free of cracks or flaws.
ASTM A213 / ASME SA-213 / UNS S30400 / W.Nr. 1.4301
ASTM A213 TP304 stainless steel seamless tubes from Thaida Stainless Steel Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. are manufactured in Ban Bueng, Chonburi, Thailand, for heat exchangers, instrument lines and dairy and beverage plants. Listed as UNS S30400 and, in Europe, as EN 1.4301, this 18/8 chromium-nickel grade is the starting point of our seamless stainless steel tubes family, drawn to close dimensions for heat transfer and fluid service. Bang Phli, Samut Prakan, is home to our sales office, which turns size lists into offers.

EN 10204 3.1 certificate / 3.2 on request
An SS 304 seamless tube is quoted on two figures, outside diameter and wall. Unless you write "average wall" on the order, A213 treats the wall figure as a minimum, so mark the basis beside every size. The table shows the TP304 range drawn at our Ban Bueng mill.
TP304 is one of the austenitic grades listed in ASTM A213 and ASME SA-213, the standards for seamless boiler, superheater and heat-exchanger tubes. Sizes usually furnished run to 127 mm OD, and the standard admits larger diameters when every other requirement is met, which is the basis on which we supply each ASTM A213 TP304 stainless steel seamless tube up to 257 mm OD. Process piping ordered by NPS and schedule belongs to our stainless steel 304 seamless pipes, made to ASTM A312.
A213 asks for one proof test on every single tube, either hydrostatic or nondestructive electric; we pick eddy current, ultrasonic or hydrostatic testing unless your specification settles it. Lot testing adds a tension test on one tube (two tubes once the lot passes 50), hardness readings on two tubes, and the flattening and flaring checks. Results are reported on an EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) certificate, and third-party witnessing of the tests is available on request.
TP304 is an 18/8 steel with carbon capped at 0.08%, and A213 leaves molybdenum, nitrogen and titanium open. Besides the heat analysis, A213 calls for a product analysis of one billet or one tube from each heat, and both results for a seamless S30400 stainless steel tube are checked against these limits:
UNS S30400304
| Element | ASTM A213 TP304, % |
|---|---|
| C (Carbon) | 0.08 max |
| Mn (Manganese) | 2.00 max |
| P (Phosphorus) | 0.045 max |
| S (Sulfur) | 0.030 max |
| Si (Silicon) | 1.00 max |
| Cr (Chromium) | 18.0 to 20.0 |
| Ni (Nickel) | 8.0 to 11.0 |
In the solution-treated condition, TP304 reaches these ASTM A213 values. Pipe in the same grade is held to tensile values alone, while the tube standard also sets a hardness ceiling.
| Property | ASTM A213 TP304 |
|---|---|
| Tensile Strength, min | 515 MPa (75 ksi) |
| Yield Strength, min | 205 MPa (30 ksi) |
| Elongation, min (50 mm or 2 in. gauge) | 35% |
| Brinell / Vickers Hardness, max | 192 HBW / 200 HV |
| Rockwell B Hardness, max | 90 HRB |
Each UNS S30400 seamless tube can also be tested for intergranular corrosion to ASTM A262 Practice E, a supplementary requirement performed only on orders that specify it.
Drawings from different standards bodies name grade 304 in their own way; the table matches each name to the UNS number on our certificate.
Specifications written around seamless WNR 1.4301 tube are quoted as TP304 to ASTM A213, and EN 10216-5 lists the same number for European pressure tubes. On orders for seamless 1.4301 stainless steel tube, the European names serve as a cross-reference, while tolerances, tests and marking follow A213.
Our 304 stainless steel seamless tube runs from 6.35 to 257 mm OD with walls of 0.89 to 12.7 mm, and straight lengths reach 22 m. Because the tube is cold finished, the cold-finished permitted variations below apply, with the closest diameter limit under 25 mm OD.
| Specified OD, mm | OD Tolerance, mm |
|---|---|
| Under 25 | +0.1 / -0.11 |
| 25 to 40 incl. | ±0.15 |
| Over 40 to under 50 | ±0.2 |
| 50 to under 65 | ±0.25 |
| 65 to under 75 | ±0.3 |
| 75 to 100 incl. | ±0.38 |
| Over 100 to 200 incl. | +0.38 / -0.64 |
| Over 200 to 225 incl. | +0.38 / -1.14 |
These limits include out-of-roundness, apart from the special cases for thin-wall and small cold-finished tube, and apply before bending, expanding, swaging or polishing. For cold-finished austenitic tube under 50.8 mm OD, any single reading at a cross section may sit up to 0.25 mm above or below the specified OD, as long as the mean stays inside the table. The tables end at 225 mm, so for tubes above 225 mm up to 257 mm OD the diameter limit is set by agreement when we quote.
On a minimum-wall order, the wall may run up to 20% over the specified figure on tube of 38.1 mm OD and under, and up to 22% over on larger sizes, with no minus tolerance. If a heavy wall leaves an inside diameter at or below 60% of the OD, the hot-finished minimum-wall limits apply instead. An average-wall order holds cold-formed tube to ±10% of the specified wall. A cut tube is never shorter than ordered and may be up to 3 mm long below 50.8 mm OD, or up to 5 mm long from 50.8 mm OD. Cut lengths over 7.3 m gain another 3 mm of plus allowance per additional 3 m or fraction of it, with that extra allowance capped at 13 mm.
TP304 permits up to 0.08% carbon. Where each tube end is fusion welded to the tubesheet and the joints remain unannealed, a low-carbon grade limits chromium carbide formation in the heat-affected zone. A213 caps TP304L at 0.035% carbon but also sets a tensile minimum of 485 MPa and a yield minimum of 170 MPa, so check the design wall before switching to 304L seamless tubes.
Chloride is the other trigger. Grade 304 resists rust in mild water and atmospheres but can pit where chlorides or acids build up, and TP316 brings 2.00 to 3.00% molybdenum, which raises resistance to pitting and crevice attack. Our stainless steel 316 seamless tubes follow the same A213 tolerances and tests, so the switch changes chemistry, not dimensions.
In seamless form, grade 304 serves heat transfer, hygienic and small-bore fluid duties where chloride levels stay low.

Coolers, heaters and condensers on clean water, steam and low-chloride streams run on straight seamless TP304 tube; A213 asks that tube ends survive expanding and beading into the tubesheet free of cracks or flaws.

U-bend heat exchanger bundles take tubes cold bent from straight seamless 304 lengths, each bent on request to the radius and legs shown for its row on your bundle drawing.

Dairy piping, pasteurizer sections and beverage filling lines use seamless tubing in grade 304, whose smooth internal finish limits friction and product buildup, keeping product contact surfaces easy to clean between batches.

High-purity fluids in pharmaceutical cleanrooms move through bright annealed seamless 304 tube, whose bore comes out of heat treatment free of scale and needs no pickling before hygienic service.

Small-OD tube from 6.35 mm serves instrument lines and hydraulic and fuel lines, including aircraft systems, where tight size and wall control supports leak-tight fitting connections.

Chemical plants and water treatment units use grade 304 for coolers and process lines handling mild, low-chloride media, and move to 316 when chloride levels rise.

As an indicative range, seamless stainless steel 304 tube to ASTM A213 trades at about USD 3 to 6.5 per kg. Common heat exchanger sizes bought in mill quantities fall in the lower to middle part of that band. Small instrument diameters, thin walls, a bright annealed surface and short production runs raise the rate, and U-bent tubes are priced separately. Nickel content drives the base rate, so send your tube list to Thaida for a firm figure.

Every order for stainless steel 304 seamless tubes is drawn, solution treated and tested at our factory, 154 Moo.1 Map Phai, Ban Bueng, Chonburi 20170, Thailand. Offers, certificates and shipping documents come from our office at 89/18 Moo.15 Enterprize Park, Bangna-Trad Road, Bang Kaeo, Bang Phli, Samut Prakan 10540, Thailand. Each quotation states whether your sizes ship from stock or from the next drawing schedule.
ASTM A213 caps TP304 at 192 HBW or 200 HV, or 90 HRB on the Rockwell scale. On walls of 5.1 mm and over, the test may be Brinell, Rockwell or Vickers; on walls from 1.65 mm to under 5.1 mm, it is Rockwell or Vickers. Walls under 1.65 mm need no hardness test.
Yes. We cold bend U-tubes from straight seamless TP304 lengths of up to 22 m, in 12.7 to 127 mm OD and 1 to 5 mm wall, to the radius and leg lengths on your layout drawing. Attach the bend schedule to your inquiry so straight and bent tubes are priced in one offer.
Each tube is held at hydrostatic pressure for at least 5 seconds, and any leaking tube is rejected. The required pressure rises with wall thickness and falls with OD, up to a ceiling of 7 MPa (1000 psi) that A213 never asks the mill to exceed.
A lot is one size from one heat. After continuous-furnace annealing, tubes of 25.4 mm OD or less form lots of up to 125, and tubes over 25.4 mm but under 50.8 mm OD lots of up to 75; in a batch furnace, each charge is one lot. Tension, hardness, flattening and flaring results apply per lot.
At least 22% on the inside diameter when the ID is 0.8 of the OD, using a 60° tool on specimens from both ends of one tube per lot. Heavier walls, with lower ratios, must expand more. Both ends of a second tube are flattened between parallel plates in two steps, first for ductility, then for soundness.
Yes, provided one heat satisfies both A213 grades at once: carbon of 0.035% or less, nickel inside 8.0 to 11.0%, and the TP304 tensile floor of 515 MPa and yield floor of 205 MPa. Request it on the inquiry when a bundle calls for 304L carbon and 304 strength in one tube.
Each shipment carries the EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) certificate with heat chemistry, tensile, hardness and test results, plus heat treatment charts, 100% PMI records, the raw material certificate, and measured sizes and surface roughness. A manufacturer test certificate for extra tests and a third-party inspection report are added when ordered.
