Inconel 600 Seamless Tubes Manufacturer in Thailand

ASTM B163, Standard Specification for Seamless Nickel and Nickel Alloy Condenser and Heat-Exchanger Tubes, governs this product, and the standard itself refers ASME code work to its related specification, ASME SB-163. N06600 appears in it under its UNS number and in one condition only, annealed, so the heat results on an ASME SB-163 600 seamless tube certificate are reported against UNS N06600; Inconel 600 is the commercial name found on datasheets, not a B163 designation. Heat-transfer tube is dimensioned by actual outside diameter and wall, whereas Inconel 600 seamless pipes for process lines are called up by NPS and schedule.

Every tube is proven either hydrostatically or by a nondestructive electric test, and unless the purchase order specifies one, the method is the mill's choice. Hydrostatic testing takes each tube to an internal 1000 psi (6.9 MPa) on condition that the resulting wall stress does not exceed the allowable figure ASTM B163 assigns to annealed N06600, and the tube must show no leakage. Each heat gets its own chemical analysis, and a single mechanical test represents every lot. Results are reported on an EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) material test certificate, and third-party witnessing of these tests can be added to the order.

Flare Testing of Seamless Inconel 600 Tube

ASTM B163 makes the flare test a fixed requirement for this tube rather than an option to be added. One end of 1% of the finished tube lengths in each lot is flared, and a lot holding fewer than 100 tubes still gives up one end of one length for the test. The specimen is opened with an expanding tool of 60° included angle until its specified outside diameter has grown by 30%, and the flared end must show no cracking through the wall.

For flaring, as for the mechanical test, a lot is all tube of one heat, one nominal size apart from length, and one condition. Tube that cannot be traced to a heat is lotted in quantities of not more than 500 lb (230 kg). Seamless Inconel 600 tube ordered in several sizes or from several heats is therefore sampled lot by lot, not once per order.

Seamless Nickel Alloy 600 Tube Chemistry

ASTM B163 prints the 72.0% nickel minimum for UNS N06600 with a note that nickel is determined arithmetically by difference, so it is calculated from the other analyzed elements rather than read directly. The rest of seamless nickel alloy 600 tube is mainly chromium, held between 14.0 and 17.0%, and iron, held between 6.0 and 10.0%, while the remaining rows are upper limits only.

  • NiNickel, 72.0 min
  • CrChromium, 14.0 to 17.0
  • FeIron, 6.0 to 10.0
  • MnManganese, 1.0 max
  • CuCopper, 0.5 max

Tensile Requirements for ASME SB-163 600 Seamless Tube

Annealed is the only condition the tube standard lists for N06600, and it carries one row of tensile minimums whatever the diameter or wall. Every ASME SB-163 600 seamless tube lot is accepted on its tension result read against this row.

Small tube that needs a capped yield rather than a minimum alone can be ordered under the higher-yield supplementary requirement covered further down.

Equivalent Designations of Inconel 600

Engineering drawings from Europe, Japan and China often call Inconel 600 by a regional number instead of its UNS designation. The table maps those numbers to UNS N06600, the only identifier ASTM B163 uses; the regional entries help read a drawing and carry no claim of conformance to the regional standards themselves.

  2. ASTM B163 / ASME SB-163 (USA)UNS N06600

Sizes and Tolerances of Seamless WNR 2.4816 Tube

Seamless WNR 2.4816 tube is offered from 6 to 457 mm in outside diameter and from 1 to 65 mm in wall, in lengths up to 22 m, with every size confirmed in our offer.

ASTM B163 prints its diameter and wall tolerances in three bands of nominal outside diameter, from 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) to 3 in. (76.2 mm), the condenser and heat-exchanger sizes the standard was written around:

Nominal OD, in. (mm)OD Tolerance, in. (mm)Average Wall ToleranceMinimum Wall Tolerance
1/2 to 5/8 (12.7 to 15.9), excl±0.005 (0.13)±12.5%+25.0% / 0
5/8 to 1 1/2 (15.9 to 38.1), incl±0.0075 (0.19)±10.0%+20.0% / 0
Over 1 1/2 to 3 (38.1 to 76.2), incl±0.010 (0.25)±10.0%+22.0% / 0

Swipe sideways to see the full table.

These limits govern single measurements and already include ovality. When the nominal wall is 3% of the outside diameter or thinner, the mean diameter must sit within the table while each individual reading is allowed the table value plus a further 1/2% of the nominal OD. In any one cross section, wall variation is held to plus or minus 10% of that section's measured average wall. The wall tolerance follows the wall basis on the order, average or minimum, and never both at once.

Tube ordered cut to length is never shorter than specified and may run over by up to 1/8 in. (3.2 mm); past 30 ft (9.1 m) the allowance widens to 1/4 in. (6.4 mm). The standard also requires tube to be reasonably straight and free of bends or kinks. Any seamless 2.4816 tube size outside the three printed bands is quoted with its applicable tolerance written on the offer.

Supplementary Order Options for Alloy 600 Seamless Tube

ASTM B163 carries supplementary requirements that apply only when the purchase order calls them up by name. Three technical ones apply to Alloy 600 seamless tube:

U-bent tubes (S1): the standard ties tube OD and average wall to a minimum bend radius. Over 3/4 to 1 in. (19.0 to 25.4 mm) OD with 0.049 to 0.058 in. (1.24 to 1.47 mm) average wall, for example, the annealed radius may not be less than 2 in. (50.8 mm).

Higher yield strength tubes (S2): a small-diameter option that replaces the plain yield minimum with an upper and lower limit, still furnished annealed and marked HYS.

Coiled or unstraightened tubing (S3): tension specimens may be machine straightened, and the material is identified with a U suffix, as in UNS N06600-U.

Comparing UNS N06600 Seamless Tube with 601 and 625

Inconel 601 seamless tubes are ordered under another product standard and carry a different balance of elements: chromium of 21.0 to 25.0%, aluminum of 1.0 to 1.7% and nickel of 58.0 to 63.0%. Their standard includes no flare test among its requirements. Our 601 range stops at 257 mm OD and 35 mm wall, while UNS N06600 seamless tube reaches 457 mm and 65 mm.

Inconel 625 seamless tubes are also drawn under a standard of their own whose requirements omit the flare test, and our 625 range ends at the same 257 mm OD and 35 mm wall as 601. In their annealed Grade 1 condition they carry a 120 ksi (827 MPa) tensile minimum against 80 ksi (552 MPa) for annealed 600, with molybdenum at 8.0 to 10.0% and combined niobium and tantalum at 3.15 to 4.15% in the analysis.

Indicative Price per Kilogram

The nickel market sets the base of every quote for seamless Inconel 600 tube, since nickel makes up most of the alloy, and on that basis the indicative range is USD 24 to 55 per kg. Small lots, cut lengths and added testing or inspection lift a quotation, and so do small outside diameters with thin walls, which take more cold-drawing and annealing passes per kilogram. A size list with quantities brings a firm price.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many tubes in each lot of ASTM B163 Inconel 600 seamless tube are flare tested?

At least one, rising to 1% of the finished lengths once a lot reaches 100 tubes. Because a lot is a single heat, nominal size and condition, an order split across three sizes forms at least three lots and so at least three flared samples. Each sample passes when the 30% expansion leaves no crack through the wall.

What cut-length tolerance applies to long seamless Inconel 600 tube?

Plus 1/4 in. (6.4 mm) for any cut length over 30 ft (9.1 m), and plus 1/8 in. (3.2 mm) at 30 ft and below. Neither allowance lets a tube come in under the ordered length, so set the cut length at the shortest dimension your tube sheet accepts.

Which OD bands do the ASTM B163 tolerances cover for UNS N06600 seamless tube?

Three bands, from 1/2 in. (12.7 mm) up to 3 in. (76.2 mm). Take a 1 in. (25.4 mm) condenser tube: the 5/8 to 1 1/2 in. band allows ±0.19 mm on its OD, plus ±10.0% on an average wall or +20.0% / 0 on a minimum wall.

Can U-bent Alloy 600 seamless tube be ordered under ASTM B163?

The standard allows it as supplementary requirement S1, which applies only when the purchase order specifies U-bent tubes. S1 adds leg-length and leg-spacing tolerances, limits how far the bent section's OD may move from nominal, and, when the purchaser asks, a hydrostatic test after bending held for at least 5 s.

When is the higher-yield option worth specifying for seamless WNR 2.4816 tube?

When small tube needs a yield window instead of a floor. Supplementary requirement S2 covers 1/4 to 7/8 in. (6.35 to 22.23 mm) OD with wall up to 0.100 in. (2.54 mm), setting yield between 40 ksi (276 MPa) and 65 ksi (448 MPa) against the base 35 ksi (241 MPa) minimum. Other annealed-row properties are unchanged.

Should an exchanger bundle use seamless Inconel 600 tube or the 601 grade?

Choose 600 when the bundle specification names UNS N06600 to ASTM B163, with its flare test and its own tolerance bands. We supply the 601 grade to a different standard, with one strength row of 80 000 psi (550 MPa) tensile, 30 000 psi (205 MPa) yield and 30% elongation, against 35 ksi (241 MPa) yield for annealed 600.

When does ASTM B163 require a certificate, and what does ours report?

Only when the purchase order or contract specifies one, as the standard leaves certification to the order. We issue an EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) material test certificate with each consignment regardless, covering heat chemistry, the lot tension and flare results and the hydrostatic or electric test applied to every tube.

What size range is offered in seamless alloy 2.4816 tube?

Diameters span 6 mm to 457 mm OD, wall thickness spans 1 mm to 65 mm, and single lengths reach 22 m. Exchanger sizes from 1/2 to 3 in. take the printed tolerance bands of the tube standard, and for any other size the governing tolerance is written on the quotation.
