UNS N10276 Seamless Tube Chemical Composition

In a seamless alloy 2.4819 tube, nickel is the balance, alloyed with molybdenum, chromium and tungsten at very low carbon.

Molybdenum resists reducing acids that consume austenitic stainless steel, tungsten raises pitting and crevice resistance in chlorides, and low carbon limits carbide precipitation in the weld heat-affected zone, so the tube keeps its corrosion resistance in the as-welded condition.

Limits per ASTM B622 / ASME SB-622, reported on the mill test certificate for each heat:

Swipe sideways to see the full table.

On thin-wall tube, with wall 3% of OD or less, the OD tolerance applies to the mean diameter, and single readings including ovality may exceed it by 0.5% of the nominal OD. On tube over 114 mm OD with wall above 3% of OD, the mean diameter is held to the table and single readings may reach twice the table value.

OD (mm)Cut Length Tolerance (mm)
OD < 50.8+3.2 / 0
OD ≥ 50.8+4.8 / 0

These length tolerances apply to cut lengths up to 7.3 m. Longer cut lengths take an extra +3.2 mm for each 3 m or part of it, up to +12.7 mm more.

Available Configurations of Alloy C-276 Seamless Tubes

Alongside the other grades in our range, we produce seamless Alloy C276 tube as straight lengths, heat exchanger and condenser tubes, U-bends and instrumentation lines.

Seamless C276 Heat Exchanger and Condenser Tubes

Thin-wall, close-tolerance tube for shell-and-tube and condenser bundles is a core configuration. Where cooling water is clean and low in chlorides, TP316L is the lower-cost choice; C276 earns its place once hypochlorite or hot chloride brine reaches the shell side.

Each U-tube is bent from one seamless length with no weld in the bend, to the radius and leg-length schedule on your tube layout drawing.

Surface Finish of Seamless 2.4819 Tube

Every seamless alloy 2.4819 tube ships in one of three finishes. Polished (-PL) tube has a maximum Ra of 20 µ-inch (0.5 µm) on the product contact surface and 32 µ-inch (0.8 µm) on the non-product contact surface. Sanitary finish (-SF), better than commercial grade tube finish, suits high-purity hygienic service with mill finish on the non-product contact surface, and mill finish (-PU) applies to both surfaces.

How Alloy C276 Compares with C22 and B3

C276 seamless tube is the broadest-spectrum choice of the three, handling oxidizing and reducing media alike. Alloy C22 seamless tubes carry higher chromium and generally perform better in strongly oxidizing media such as nitric acid. Alloy B3 seamless tubes are a chromium-free nickel-molybdenum alloy for hydrochloric and other reducing acids, and are unsuited to oxidizing media.

Industrial Applications of Seamless C276 Tubing

C276 seamless tube is specified where wet chlorine, hypochlorite, chlorine dioxide, sulfuric and hydrochloric acids or chloride-bearing seawater attack stainless steel.

Chemical Processing Plants duty for Alloy C276 seamless tube

Chemical Processing Plants

Acid transfer, reactor internals and process cooling lines in chemical plants run on seamless Alloy C276 tube where mixed-acid streams pit and crack 316L seamless tubes within one turnaround cycle.

Oil and Gas / Sour Service duty for Alloy C276 seamless tube

Oil and Gas / Sour Service

In sour oil and gas production, UNS N10276 seamless tube runs chemical injection lines, umbilicals and downhole instrumentation, including high-pressure acid gas injection service.

Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) and Pollution Control duty for Alloy C276 seamless tube

Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) and Pollution Control

Condensing acid and chloride concentration at the wet/dry interface defeat stainless steel in scrubber internals, quench and absorber duty, so power and pollution control plants turn to seamless nickel alloy C276 tube.

Marine and Seawater Systems duty for Alloy C276 seamless tube

Marine and Seawater Systems

Seawater cooling, ballast and firewater lines on offshore platforms and coastal plant use Alloy C-276 seamless tube, which performs well in flowing seawater.

Heat Exchangers and Condensers duty for Alloy C276 seamless tube

Heat Exchangers and Condensers

Shell-and-tube bundles and condensers handling chlorinated organics, hypochlorite and chlorine dioxide call for C276 seamless tube, since these media attack 304 and 316L stainless steel.

Pharmaceutical Processing duty for Alloy C276 seamless tube

Pharmaceutical Processing

Pharmaceutical reactor, transfer and clean-service lines take polished (-PL) or sanitary (-SF) tubing, where product purity governs the material choice as much as corrosion life does.

Seamless C-276 Tube FAQ

Which OD and wall tolerances apply to Alloy C276 seamless tubes?

ASTM B622 applies the cold-worked tolerances in our sizes table. For a 25 mm OD seamless WNR 2.4819 tube, that means ±0.19 mm on OD and ±10% on nominal wall, or +22% / 0 when you order minimum wall. Cut lengths under 50.8 mm OD are held to +3.2 / 0 mm.

Can seamless Alloy C276 tube be supplied as U-tubes?

Yes. Each U-tube is bent from one seamless length with no weld in the bend, to the bend radius and leg lengths on your bundle drawing, and crated with bend protection. Send the tube layout with OD, wall and radius set for a quotation.

Is C276 seamless tube suitable for wet chlorine and FGD service?

Yes. Wet chlorine, hypochlorite and the acid chloride condensate in flue gas desulfurization scrubbers are core C276 duties, because 15.0 to 17.0% molybdenum and 3.0 to 4.5% tungsten resist the pitting and crevice attack that defeats 316L. Include the chloride level, temperature and pH with your inquiry.

Should I choose Alloy C276 or Alloy C22 for tube service?

Choose C276 for reducing acids such as sulfuric and hydrochloric acid, where it outperforms C22, and for mixed-duty service that one alloy must cover. C22 carries more chromium and is preferred for strongly oxidizing media, such as nitric acid above 70%. Send your media, concentration and temperature and we will confirm the alloy.

Is "Inconel C276" the same alloy as Alloy C276?

Yes. Drawings that call for "Inconel C276" refer to the same nickel-molybdenum-chromium alloy, UNS N10276, supplied to ASTM B622 / ASME SB-622. Send the drawing with the UNS number and we will quote the matching Alloy C-276 seamless tube.

Which finish of seamless 2.4819 tube suits pharmaceutical lines?

Order polished (-PL) or sanitary finish (-SF) tube. Polished tube has a maximum Ra of 0.5 µm (20 µ-inch) on the product contact surface and 0.8 µm (32 µ-inch) on the non-product contact surface, while -SF suits high-purity hygienic lines. Mill finish (-PU) applies to both surfaces.

What sizes of UNS N10276 seamless tube do you produce?

We produce UNS N10276 seamless tube from 6 mm to 457 mm OD, with walls from 1 mm to 65 mm and lengths up to 22 m, quoted in metric or imperial sizes to average or minimum wall.

What does the certificate for ASME SB-622 C276 seamless tube report?

Each lot ships with an EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) certificate showing heat chemistry against ASTM B622 limits, tension test results and the hydrostatic or non-destructive electric test on every tube. UNS N10276 is stated on every certificate, and W.Nr. 2.4819 is cross-referenced whenever your drawing calls for it.
