253MA Seamless Tubes Manufacturer in Thailand

The product standard is ASTM A213, titled Seamless Ferritic and Austenitic Alloy-Steel Boiler, Superheater, and Heat-Exchanger Tubes, and ASME SA-213 is the related specification named for code work. S30815 is one of the austenitic steels its tables accept, and the grade column against that number is empty: a footnote there explains that the UNS number on its own identifies the alloy, which is why an order for seamless stainless steel 253MA tube names ASTM A213 and UNS S30815 and no TP prefix at all. A requisition that sizes a hot gas header in nominal bore and schedule is quoted instead as 253MA seamless pipes.

No 253MA stainless steel seamless tube leaves the mill unproved: each one takes either the nondestructive electric test or the hydrostatic test, and the selection stays with us where the order is not specific. A product analysis follows every heat, run on a billet or on a finished length. Lot work brings tension specimens, one tube for lots up to fifty and two for larger lots, plus a hardness reading from two tubes that A213 waives below 1.65 mm of wall. All of that is reported on the EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) certificate, and the file behind it holds the raw material certificate, PMI on every tube, the heat treatment chart and the record of measured size and surface roughness. A third-party inspector is welcome to witness the testing, and an independent laboratory report can be issued, either one on request.

Chemical Composition of Seamless S30815 Stainless Steel Tube

A213 brackets carbon, silicon, nitrogen and cerium between a minimum and a maximum rather than simply capping them, which is what separates this steel from a plain chromium-nickel austenitic. Every heat behind a seamless S30815 stainless steel tube is checked against the limits in this table.

  • CrChromium, 20.0 to 22.0
  • NiNickel, 10.0 to 12.0
  • SiSilicon, 1.40 to 2.00
  • MnManganese, 0.80 max
  • NNitrogen, 0.14 to 0.20

UNS S30815253MA

ElementA213 limit for UNS S30815, %
C (Carbon)0.05 to 0.10
Mn (Manganese)0.80 max
P (Phosphorus)0.040 max
S (Sulfur)0.030 max
Si (Silicon)1.40 to 2.00
Cr (Chromium)20.0 to 22.0
Ni (Nickel)10.0 to 12.0
N (Nitrogen)0.14 to 0.20
Ce (Cerium)0.03 to 0.08
Mo (Molybdenum)No requirement
Nb (Niobium)No requirement
Ti (Titanium)No requirement

Chromium of 20.0 to 22.0% builds the outer chromia layer and silicon of 1.40 to 2.00% the silica layer beneath it; cerium keeps that scale adherent, while nitrogen and carbon together form the fine particles that carry load at heat. Molybdenum, niobium and titanium carry no requirement, so a heat need not report them.

Room Temperature Limits on ASTM A213 Stainless Steel 253MA Seamless Tube

Tension pieces are cut per lot once the tube has been solution treated at 1050 °C (1920 °F) or above and cooled fast in water or by another rapid method. Each ASTM A213 stainless steel 253MA seamless tube answers the room temperature figures below.

RequirementA213 value for UNS S30815
Tensile strength, minimum600 MPa (87 ksi)
Yield strength, minimum310 MPa (45 ksi)
Elongation in 50 mm (2 in.), minimum40%
Hardness, Brinell maximum217 HBW
Hardness, Rockwell B maximum95 HRB

No Vickers ceiling is published for this steel, so hardness is reported in Brinell or in Rockwell B. No grain size requirement exists for S30815 in the tube standard either, which is why the certificate shows no grain size figure.

Equivalent Designations of 253MA

253MA answers to a single UNS number and a short list of cross-references, gathered here for checking a drawing against a certificate.

  1. UNSS30815
  2. ASTM A213 / ASME SA-213Listed by UNS number, with no grade name
  3. WNR (EN number)1.4835
  4. EN steel nameX9CrNiSiNCe21-11
  5. GB (China), new name0Cr21Ni11N

Treat 1.4835 and X9CrNiSiNCe21-11 as cross-references and nothing more. That number does not appear in EN 10216-5, the European specification covering seamless pressure tube, so the material is made and accepted to ASTM A213 under UNS S30815, and the Werkstoff number serves only to match the grade against a European drawing.

Sizes of Seamless WNR 1.4835 Tube for Radiant and Furnace Duty

One envelope covers thermocouple protection sizes at the small end of the range and air heater elements at the large end, quoted in metric or in imperial units.

DimensionSeamless WNR 1.4835 tube range
Outside diameter6.35 to 257 mm
Wall thickness0.89 to 12.7 mm
LengthUp to 22 m, or trimmed to the figure on the drawing
Wall basisMinimum wall, or average wall when the order says so
Finish conditionHot finished or cold finished

The standard puts the sizes it usually covers between a 3.2 mm bore and 127 mm outside diameter, on walls of 0.4 mm to 12.7 mm, and it takes in larger diameters as long as everything else it asks for is satisfied. That clause is what carries our seamless 1.4835 stainless steel tube from 127 mm through to 257 mm. Past 225 mm diameter, the dimensional limit on each item is fixed by agreement at the time of ordering.

Flattening, Flaring and Forming Tests on SS 253MA Seamless Tube

Two finished tubes from each lot are given up to the ductility tests, and they are deliberately not the same tube.

Flattening in Two Steps

One finished tube per lot gives up the flattening specimens, at least 60 mm long, one taken at either end of it. Each specimen goes down cold between parallel plates in two stages. The opening stage tests ductility: no crack or break may show before the plates close to a height H, where H = (1 + e) t / (e + t / D), e taken as 0.09 for an austenitic steel, t the ordered wall and D the outside diameter. The closing stage tests soundness and carries on until the specimen parts or its opposite walls touch, and laminated or unsound metal revealed at any point in the test rejects the lot.

Flaring on a Second Seamless Tube

Flaring is proved on a different tube again, drawn from the same lot, with a specimen off either end of it. The two forming tests never run on one length, so an SS 253MA seamless tube lot reaches you with both results recorded.

Expanding, Beading and Superheater Forming

A213 is just as plain about what the finished product must survive in the fabrication shop. Anything rolled into a boiler or into a tube sheet is required to expand and to bead with neither a crack nor a flaw appearing afterwards, while a superheater length has to stand up to the bending, welding and forging its own duty asks of it. The lot tests above are the evidence that it will, which is why they run on every lot and not on request.

How Seamless Stainless Steel 253MA Tube Compares with 310S and 314

A213 asks 600 MPa tensile strength and 310 MPa yield of S30815 and holds TP310S to 515 MPa and 205 MPa, and it sets elongation higher here too, 40% against the 35% required of TP310S. Nickel is the commercial separator, 10.0 to 12.0% in this grade against 19.0 to 22.0% in TP310S, so 310S seamless tubes answer a drawing written around a high-nickel chromium wall, and S30815 answers one written around silicon, nitrogen and cerium.

Grade 314 is the other silicon-bearing option in the heat-resisting group, and it appears nowhere in A213, so our stainless steel 314 seamless tubes are produced to their own composition and annealing limits instead of to a grade row of the tube standard. When the requisition has to cite ASTM A213 or ASME SA-213, S30815 is the heat-resisting grade the standard actually carries.

Where 253MA Stainless Steel Seamless Tube Earns Its Place

Furnace heat, combustion gas and carburizing atmospheres are what put seamless stainless steel 253MA tube on a drawing ahead of a leaner austenitic grade.

Radiant Elements and Furnace Rollers duty for 253MA seamless tube

Radiant Elements and Furnace Rollers

Rolling mill equipment takes the grade for radiant tubes, boiler nozzles and furnace rollers, parts that run up to heat and back down with every campaign and have to hold their scale through the cycle.

Thermocouple Protection and Burner Components duty for 253MA seamless tube

Thermocouple Protection and Burner Components

Furnace builders order thermocouple protection tubes, burner components and the tubes that inject pulverized coal, items that sit in flame-side gas for as long as the furnace runs between rebuilds.

Air Heaters and Gas Coolers duty for 253MA seamless tube

Air Heaters and Gas Coolers

Mineral equipment and cement production lines use it for blast furnace components, air heaters and gas coolers, where hot dust-laden process gas would scale a lower-alloy wall within a campaign.

Superheater Connections and Flue Gas Ducting duty for 253MA seamless tube

Superheater Connections and Flue Gas Ducting

Coal and biomass power stations route superheater connecting tubes and hot flue gas ducting in this steel, each item cut to the straight length the boiler drawing calls for.

Incineration and Emissions Handling duty for 253MA seamless tube

Incineration and Emissions Handling

Waste and emissions plants fit incineration piping and exhaust system heat exchanger tubes, where the gas chemistry shifts through every burn and the wall heats and cools with it.

Price per kg of Seamless 1.4835 Stainless Steel Tube

Seamless 1.4835 stainless steel tube to ASTM A213 is quoted indicatively at USD 5 to 10 per kg. Nickel of 10.0 to 12.0% sets the base and moves the figure with the metal market, while the cerium melt practice and the handful of mills able to draw this grade seamless hold it above plain austenitic tube. Inside the band, outside diameter, wall, cut length, lot size and testing beyond A213 decide where a line lands, and short runs of furnace parts sit at the top. Send the sizes and a dated offer follows.

Common Questions on 253MA Seamless Tubing

Why does ASTM A213 identify this steel by UNS number instead of a grade name?

Because no common grade designation exists for it. A213 footnotes the grade cell against S30815 to say that the UNS number uniquely identifies the alloy, so there is no TP name to quote. Write the order as ASTM A213, UNS S30815, and treat 253MA as the product name beside it.

What do cerium and nitrogen contribute to a seamless 253MA tube?

Cerium, a rare earth addition held to 0.03 to 0.08%, helps the protective scale stay attached to the hot surface. Nitrogen at 0.14 to 0.20% acts with the 0.05 to 0.10% carbon to precipitate the fine particles behind the creep strength of the grade, and it keeps the structure austenitic with little ferrite.

Why does seamless 253MA tube need 40% elongation when the pipe form is held to 35%?

Two different standards. Seamless tube is accepted to ASTM A213, which asks 40% minimum elongation over a 50 mm gauge from S30815 and adds hardness ceilings of 217 HBW and 95 HRB. The pipe form answers to ASTM A312, where the figure for the same steel is 35% and no hardness ceiling is set.

Are the flattening and flaring specimens taken from the same seamless 253MA tube?

No. Two finished tubes are sacrificed by each lot: the flattening pair is cut at the two ends of one of them and the flaring pair at the two ends of the other. Lot sizes are therefore worth fixing while the inquiry is open, because both of those tubes leave the quantity you ordered.

Will a seamless S30815 tube expand and bead into a tube sheet?

Yes. Anything A213 sends into a boiler or a tube sheet has to expand and bead with neither a crack nor a flaw afterwards, and a superheater length has to stand the bending, welding and forging its own duty asks of it. Send the tube sheet hole detail so wall and finish condition can be matched to it.

Why is no EN 10216-5 conformity shown for 1.4835?

Because 1.4835 is absent from the list of steels that standard covers. The Werkstoff number and the steel name X9CrNiSiNCe21-11 are useful for matching a European drawing to the grade, while the material itself is made and accepted to ASTM A213 under UNS S30815.

Does every seamless WNR 1.4835 tube get a hardness test?

No, the wall decides. Two tubes out of each lot are read against 217 HBW and 95 HRB, with no Vickers ceiling published for this steel. A213 drops the test below 1.65 mm of wall, so instrument-gauge sizes are accepted on their tension and ductility results instead.

Which documents arrive with a 253MA seamless tubes consignment?

Each consignment carries its EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) certificate, giving the heat chemistry inside the S30815 limits, the tension and hardness figures for that lot, both forming test results and the release check taken by every tube. Behind it come the heat treatment chart, PMI data, the raw material certificate and a record of size and roughness.
