Downhole Casing and Tubing
Deep sour-gas wells take seamless nickel alloy 925 tube in downhole casing and tubing assemblies, ordered by outside diameter, wall and length, with each tube hydrostatically or electrically tested before dispatch.
ASTM B983 / UNS N09925
Within an outside-diameter range of 6.35 to 257 mm, Thaida Stainless Steel Manufacturing (Thailand) Co., Ltd. produces Incoloy 925 seamless tubes to ASTM B983 at its mill in Ban Bueng, Chonburi, Thailand. Every tube is UNS N09925, the precipitation-hardened grade of our Incoloy seamless tubes range, delivered solution annealed plus precipitation hardened and limited to the Rockwell C 38 maximum that B983 sets for the alloy. Quotations, drawing reviews and export documents are handled by our office in Bang Phli, Samut Prakan.
Incoloy 925 seamless tubeUNS N09925
EN 10204 3.1 certificate / 3.2 on request
B983 has tube ordered on outside diameter, a minimum or an average wall, and length, and our offers use the same basis. Below are the sizes we make, the delivery condition, the hardness ceiling and the tests completed before release.
Every ASTM B983 Incoloy 925 seamless tube from our mill is made to that one product standard, Standard Specification for Precipitation Hardened or Cold Worked, Seamless Nickel Alloy Pipe and Tube. Its scope lists eight nickel alloys by UNS number, and the chemistry, strength and hardness limits for this alloy sit under N09925. Incoloy 925 and Alloy 925 are the commercial names used on drawings, while our marking and certificates carry the UNS number. Lines called up by standard pipe size and schedule are produced as Incoloy 925 seamless pipes under the same standard.
Each tube passes either a hydrostatic test or a nondestructive electric test, and every lot receives one chemical analysis and one tension test, the tension specimen being cut after the final heat treatment and tested in the direction of fabrication. Results are issued on an EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) material test certificate, and third-party inspection is available on request.
Every lot of UNS N09925 seamless tube is analyzed against the ASTM B983 limits below, and the heat analysis is printed on the certificate. Iron is a minimum that B983 allows to be determined arithmetically by difference, and the standard lists niobium under its older name, columbium.
UNS N09925925
| Element | Limit per ASTM B983 (%) |
|---|---|
| Ni (Nickel) | 38.0 to 46.0 |
| Cr (Chromium) | 19.5 to 23.5 |
| Fe (Iron) | 22.0 min |
| Mo (Molybdenum) | 2.50 to 3.50 |
| Cu (Copper) | 1.50 to 3.00 |
| Ti (Titanium) | 1.90 to 2.40 |
| Al (Aluminum) | 0.10 to 0.50 |
| Nb (Niobium) | 0.50 max |
| C (Carbon) | 0.03 max |
| Mn (Manganese) | 1.00 max |
| Si (Silicon) | 0.50 max |
| S (Sulfur) | 0.030 max |
Our Incoloy 825 seamless tubes share the nickel, chromium, iron, molybdenum and copper windows shown here. Four elements separate the two alloys: titanium runs 1.90 to 2.40% in 925 against 0.6 to 1.2% in 825, aluminum 0.10 to 0.50% against 0.2% max, carbon 0.03% max against 0.05% max, and only 925 carries a niobium limit.
ASTM B983 gives N09925 a single room-temperature row, and every lot of seamless nickel alloy 925 tube is tension tested against it in the delivered condition.
| Property | Value | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Condition | Solution annealed plus precipitation hardened | |
| Tensile Strength, min | 965 (140) | MPa (ksi) |
| Yield Strength, min | 758 (110) | MPa (ksi) |
| Elongation in 2 in. (50 mm) or 4D, min | 18 | % |
| Hardness, max | 38 | Rockwell C |
The N09925 row in B983 ends with a maximum rather than a minimum: Rockwell C 38. The row belongs to the solution annealed plus precipitation hardened condition, which is how each seamless Incoloy 925 tube leaves our mill, so the strength minimums and the hardness ceiling apply to the same tube at the same time.
The ceiling is a property requirement, not a test schedule. B983 fixes no hardness-test frequency, and the mechanical test it calls for on every lot is the tension test. When an inspection plan asks for hardness readings, state the frequency on the order and the values are reported on the certificate.
B983 prints its annealing and hardening cycles as recommended treatments only. What it requires is the delivered condition, the property row and the hardness ceiling, and the mill sets its cycle to meet all three. Tubes are descaled, unless the furnace runs under atmosphere control, which B983 accepts in place of descaling.
The same standard covers UNS N07718, which we produce as Inconel 718 seamless tubes. B983 caps that alloy at Rockwell C 40, while the N09925 ceiling stays at Rockwell C 38.
Drawings call for Incoloy 925 by its commercial name or by its UNS number. ASTM B983 identifies the alloy by UNS number only, and that number is certified for every heat.
We produce Alloy 925 seamless tube from 6.35 mm to 257 mm outside diameter and 1 mm to 65 mm wall, in single lengths up to 22 m. Each line is quoted on outside diameter and either minimum or average wall, the two wall bases B983 accepts for tube.
Clause 14.1 of B983 applies the standard's own Table 4 to tube finished hot, and that table carries a band from over 9 1/4 in. (235 mm) up to 12 in. (305 mm). Clause 14.2 governs the dimensions, straightness, ovality and permissible variations of precipitation-hardened and cold-worked tube, so each quotation names the set that governs the size ordered.
| Nominal OD, in. (mm) | OD Tolerance, in. (mm) | Nominal Wall Tolerance | Minimum Wall Tolerance |

| 3/4 (19) to 1 1/2 (38), incl. | +0.015 (0.4) / -0.031 (0.8) | ±12.5% | +28.5% / 0 |
| Over 1 1/2 (38.1) to 4 (102), incl. | ±0.031 (0.8) | ±12.5% | +28.5% / 0 |

The 5 in. (127 mm) diameter decides how readings are judged. At or under it, each individual measurement must fall inside the band, ovality included; above it, the mean diameter must stay inside the band and no single reading may exceed twice the band. Table 4 begins at 3/4 in. (19 mm), and our 257 mm maximum falls inside its last band, which extends to 305 mm.
Seamless 925 tube is specified where one tube has to combine precipitation-hardened strength with a chemistry that carries molybdenum and copper.

Deep sour-gas wells take seamless nickel alloy 925 tube in downhole casing and tubing assemblies, ordered by outside diameter, wall and length, with each tube hydrostatically or electrically tested before dispatch.

High-pressure umbilical and hydraulic control lines run in small-diameter Alloy 925 seamless tube, where single lengths of up to 22 m keep the number of joints in each line low.

Heat-exchanger bundles in chemical processing plants use the tube where the tube side calls for precipitation-hardened strength together with molybdenum and copper in the alloy.

Power stations fit seamless 925 tubing in components exposed to corrosive water, with the heat number marked on each tube so it can be matched to the chemistry on the certificate.

Offshore platforms use UNS N09925 seamless tube in marine service, supplied with plain, deburred ends that suit fitting or welding during platform fabrication and hook-up.

Incoloy 925 seamless tubes are indicatively priced at USD 24 to 55 per kg. Where an order falls in that band depends first on the nickel market, then on the solution anneal and precipitation-hardening treatment each tube receives, and then on size range, lot quantity and lead time, since fewer stockists offer the alloy as seamless tube than as bar. Send your line list for a dated quotation.
Indicative only. Send your sizes and specification to Thaida for a firm quotation.
Production runs at 154 Moo.1 Map Phai, Ban Bueng, Chonburi 20170, Thailand, and our sales and export office is at 89/18 Moo.15 Enterprize Park, Bangna-Trad Road, Bang Kaeo, Bang Phli, Samut Prakan 10540, Thailand. We deliver Incoloy 925 seamless tubes to plants across Thailand and export to Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines and India.
Yes, on hardness. The N09925 row pairs 965 MPa tensile, 758 MPa yield and 18% elongation minimums with a Rockwell C 38 maximum. A tube that passes tension but reads above 38 is outside the specification, so any hardness readings the order calls for are checked against that ceiling alongside the tension results.
No. Each tube is solution annealed and then precipitation hardened before dispatch, the condition in which ASTM B983 tabulates N09925 properties. If your fabrication route includes welding, bending or a heat treatment of its own, send it with the inquiry, because the certified properties belong to the delivered condition.
Tensile 965 MPa (140 ksi), yield 758 MPa (110 ksi) and elongation 18% in 2 in. (50 mm) or 4D, verified by one tension test per lot. If that test fails, two further specimens from different sample pieces are tested, and both must meet the requirements.
For tube finished hot, ASTM B983 Table 4 allows ±0.110 in. (2.8 mm) on OD and ±12.5% on nominal wall over 9 1/4 in. (235 mm) up to 12 in. (305 mm), with no minimum-wall figure. Tube is ordered on minimum or average wall, and for precipitation-hardened tube the quotation names the set that governs the size ordered.
From 6.35 mm to 257 mm outside diameter, 1 mm to 65 mm wall and up to 22 m long. A line above 257 mm OD is made as seamless pipe in the same grade, which we produce up to 457 mm OD and supply by standard pipe size and schedule.
Our 825 is supplied annealed as condenser and heat-exchanger tubing, with a 241 MPa yield minimum and a flare test on 1% of the lengths in each lot. 925 is precipitation hardened to a 758 MPa yield minimum under a Rockwell C 38 cap, with no flare requirement. Choose 925 when the design depends on yield.
An EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) certificate names ASTM B983, UNS N09925 and the delivery condition, then gives heat chemistry against the B983 limits, the lot tension results and the hydrostatic or electric test passed by each tube. Heat numbers on the certificate match the marking on every tube.
