Inconel 601 Seamless Tubes Manufacturer in Thailand

ASTM B167 has a code counterpart, ASME SB-167, for boiler and pressure vessel work. In one document it sets the composition limits, minimum tensile properties, delivery conditions and the hydrostatic or electric proof test for seamless pipe and tube made from a group of nickel-chromium alloys, N06601 included. A tube order gives the outside diameter and a wall stated either as nominal or as minimum; standard pipe sizes with schedules are supplied as Inconel 601 seamless pipes. Our Inconel 600 seamless tubes follow a separate condenser and heat-exchanger tube specification, so a project using both grades orders them under two different standards.

Every ASTM B167 Inconel 601 seamless tube is proved individually before release, either hydrostatically at 1000 psi (6.9 MPa), as long as that pressure keeps the wall within the allowable fiber stress of the standard, or by a non-destructive electric test. The manufacturer picks the method unless the purchase order fixes one, and a tube that leaks under pressure is rejected. Chemistry is analyzed heat by heat, while tension testing runs once for each lot, which groups tubes of one heat that also match in nominal size and condition. Under ASTM B167 each delivery must include the manufacturer's certification together with the test results, which we issue as an EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) certificate; witnessing by a third-party inspector is available on request.

Chemistry Limits for Seamless Inconel 601 Tube

ASTM B167 holds this alloy to 58.0 to 63.0% nickel, 21.0 to 25.0% chromium and 1.0 to 1.7% aluminum, while iron is the remainder, determined arithmetically by difference rather than by its own limit. Carbon stops at 0.10%, manganese at 1.5% and copper at 1.0%. The heat analysis on the certificate reports each element in the table; under the standard, any check analysis made after delivery rests wholly with the purchaser.

Seamless Nickel Alloy 601 Tube Tensile Minimums

One row of room-temperature minimums covers UNS N06601 in ASTM B167, across the full tube envelope and for both annealed conditions.

The smallest and the largest seamless nickel alloy 601 tube we produce are therefore judged by the same three figures. Each lot's tension result is printed on the certificate beside these minimums, so the margin on the delivered tube can be read directly.

Inconel 601 Equivalent Designations

Engineers meet Inconel 601 under the four labels listed here. The UNS number is the one ASTM B167 prints; the W.Nr. and JIS entries help match a European or Japanese drawing to the same alloy, as a cross-reference rather than a claim of supply to those national standards.

  1. Commercial nameInconel 601, also written Alloy 601
  2. ASTM B167 / ASME SB-167 (USA)UNS N06601
  3. Europe (W.Nr.)2.4851
  4. Japan (JIS)NCF601

On a European drawing the alloy appears as 2.4851 and on a Japanese one as NCF601; either callout is quoted and shipped as UNS N06601 seamless tube.

Seamless 2.4851 Tube Sizes and Wall Basis

Production of this alloy in tube form covers outside diameters of 6 mm through 257 mm and walls from 1 mm through 35 mm, with each piece as long as 22 m. ASTM B167 asks a tube order for the outside diameter plus one wall figure, either nominal or minimum, and the tolerance applied depends on that choice and on whether the tube was finished cold or hot. A cold-worked seamless 2.4851 tube is measured against the cold-worked tolerances, the tighter set at these diameters, while the hot-finished tube tolerances below apply only to tube that was hot-finished.

Hot-Finished Tolerances for Seamless WNR 2.4851 Tube

ASTM B167 permits the following variations on hot-finished tube between 3/4 in. (19 mm) and 4 in. (102 mm) OD:

Nominal OD, in. (mm)OD Plus, in. (mm)OD Minus, in. (mm)Nominal Wall Plus / Minus, %Minimum Wall Plus / Minus, %
3/4 (19) to 1 1/2 (38), incl0.015 (0.4)0.031 (0.8)12.5 / 12.528.5 / 0
Over 1 1/2 (38.1) to 4 (102), incl0.031 (0.8)0.031 (0.8)12.5 / 12.528.5 / 0

Swipe sideways to see the full table.

In both bands the diameter limits include ovality. A seamless WNR 2.4851 tube bought to nominal wall may vary either way within its band, whereas one bought to minimum wall may run thicker but never thinner. Hot-finished sizes above 4 in. (102 mm) move to the next band of the same table, which the quotation states for each item.

Marking on Each ASME SB-167 601 Seamless Tube

ASTM B167 allows the identification to sit on the tube itself, on its package, or on an attached label or tag. It names the material or its UNS number, the heat number, the condition, the specification number and the size, together with the order or contract number, the consignor and consignee addresses, and gross, tare and net weights. Because the heat number in that marking is the one on the heat analysis, each ASME SB-167 601 seamless tube can be traced to its certificate entry through the marking on the tube itself or on its bundle, package or tag.

Seamless Alloy 2.4851 Tube Price per kg

Our indicative range for seamless alloy 2.4851 tube is USD 24 to 55 per kg. Nickel is the main component of the alloy, so the range follows the nickel market. Where a given size falls inside it depends on diameter, wall and form, because small-bore tube and heavy or unusual walls take more drawing work per kilogram than standard sizes. The grade is carried by a smaller number of stockists than the more common nickel alloys, so quantity and lead time also move the figure. A size list with quantities gets a firm, dated price.

FAQ: Ordering Seamless 601 Tube

Under which standard are seamless tubes in Inconel 601 produced and ordered?

ASTM B167, with ASME SB-167 as its counterpart for code work. It identifies the alloy only by UNS N06601, so that number belongs on the order line rather than a commercial name. The same specification also governs pipe in this alloy, so tube and pipe on one project share the same chemistry limits and tensile minimums.

Should 601 seamless tubing be ordered to nominal or minimum wall?

ASTM B167 accepts either, with one wall figure per item. Choose minimum wall when a pressure design fixes the thinnest acceptable wall: hot-finished tube may then run up to 28.5% over and nothing under. Choose nominal wall when weight or a target bore matters more; on hot-finished sizes it is held to plus or minus 12.5%.

Where do the hot-finished OD bands start for small 601 seamless tube?

At 3/4 in. (19 mm). Up to 1 1/2 in. (38 mm) the limits lean to the minus side, 0.4 mm over against 0.8 mm under, which matters where tube fits a bore; to 4 in. (102 mm) they are symmetrical. Below 19 mm the hot-finished table has no band, so those sizes are quoted to the cold-worked tolerances.

How do I match delivered Inconel 601 seamless tubes to their certificate?

Read the heat number, size and condition on the ASTM B167 marking and find the same entries on the certificate. ASTM B167 groups a lot by heat, nominal size and condition, so those three marked entries point your inspector to the heat analysis and to the one lot tension result that covers the delivered tubes.

What changes when a tube drawing switches from Inconel 600 to Inconel 601?

The composition moves. Chromium rises to 21.0 to 25.0% from 14.0 to 17.0%, nickel falls to 58.0 to 63.0% from a 72.0% minimum, and an aluminum range of 1.0 to 1.7% appears. The order line becomes UNS N06601 under ASTM B167, and the switch should be confirmed with the equipment designer before tube is released.

What is the largest seamless tube size Thaida produces in Inconel 601?

257 mm OD is the top of the tube range in this alloy, with walls up to 35 mm and lengths to 22 m. A requirement beyond that envelope, up to 457 mm outside diameter or 65 mm wall, is met in the same alloy as pipe, in lengths up to 18 m.
