ASTM B407, Standard Specification for Nickel-Iron-Chromium Alloy Seamless Pipe and Tube, places UNS N08800 in general service and UNS N08810 and N08811 in service where creep and rupture resistance is required. Of the three, only those two must be annealed to a controlled grain size and reach a minimum final heat-treatment temperature, so an ASTM B407 seamless Incoloy tube ordered for creep and rupture service is specified as 800H or 800HT.
ASTM B163, Standard Specification for Seamless Nickel and Nickel Alloy Condenser and Heat-Exchanger Tubes, is the standard we use for UNS N08825 seamless tube. It lists the grade annealed only, prints its own tolerance table and cut-length rule, and adds a flare test on each lot, a test that neither B407 nor B983 requires.
ASTM B983, Standard Specification for Precipitation Hardened or Cold Worked, Seamless Nickel Alloy Pipe and Tube, covers UNS N09925. The only condition it lists for the grade is solution annealed plus precipitation hardened, its property table sets a hardness ceiling beside the strength minimums, and it is quoted without an ASME number.
ASTM A213, the seamless boiler, superheater and heat-exchanger tube standard, lists UNS N08028 and N08926 by number, with no grade name, and is quoted as ASME SA-213 for code work. It calls for a product analysis on every heat and for flattening and flaring tests on two different tubes of each lot, and it adds a hardness limit for N08926, checked on two tubes per lot.
ASTM B829, Standard Specification for General Requirements for Nickel and Nickel Alloys Seamless Pipe and Tube, fills the gaps the three B-standards leave. For tube in the 800 group and in 925, it defines the lot as one heat, one nominal size and one condition, sets out how the hydrostatic and electric tests are run and lists the marking. B163 writes its own lot, hydrostatic, length and marking clauses, and a product standard's own clause always governs. Incoloy 028 and Alloy 926 seamless tubes made to ASTM A213 take their general requirements from ASTM A1016 instead.
Each tube passes a hydrostatic test or a nondestructive electric test, chosen by us unless the order names one, and a tube that leaks is rejected. Every lot gets a chemical analysis and a tension test, 800H and 800HT add a grain-size test, 825 adds a flare test, and Incoloy 028 and Alloy 926 add flattening and flaring tests, with a hardness test for Alloy 926. Results are reported on an EN 10204 3.1 (3.2 on request) certificate, and third-party inspection is available on request.
